Eamonn Chick Deacy. Hard as nails. Won English League with Villa and returned home to Galway United in his late twenties and never once took a wage packet. I reckon he got sent off 3 or 4 times per season. He always cycled to Terryland for home games.

He is in his mid 50's now and was still playing junior football last season. He is a Galway United season ticket holder and sometimes goes to away games too. I saw him at UCD and Sligo last year.

He is what legends are made off.

Has got to be Alan Reynolds , a no nonsense player on the field and a bar brawling lunatic off it.

Foir me, Utd CULT heroes were:
Oh Ah Johnny Morris Burke.
Pa Dunne - the postman from Tuam always delivers!
Johnny Kenny flying down the wing, with his mullet and hairband following him.
Gerry Daly - ball or man shall pass. Never both.
Miko Nolan (RIP) - speakng of tough nuts, Miko, give the nice man his leg back.
Mags Mannion - what's that John, speak up, they can't hear you in, oh, France maybe?
As mentioned earlier, Chick Deacy - cult hero, legend and one of our best ever players, all rolled into 1.
Ricky Fla and his dancing feet.
Richie 'Blocks More' Blackmore.
Johnny Glynn for THAT goal, obviously.
Mickey McLaughlin - the BSH was as wide as he was tall.
Derek 'Buck' Rogers
And I'm probably leaving a load out as well . . . .

Seeing as I dont have a club, I think these should be added
Barry Burke was the great cult hero at DC. Fabulous player who could have gone all the way if he'd had the right managers.

Kevin Williamson was up there too, if only for his barmy oul one. :D

Robbie Dunne and Paul Marney for me. They were hard working, would feed off the energy of the fans and 100% committed to the team but not particularly great players - everything a cult hero should be!

Stenny and Fago - with the Bit o' Red from the Cretaceous era to the mid-1980s.

From other teams, the great McConville-Keely-Dunning-Lawlor axis of evil

Ezeikial
26/08/2009, 11:00 AM
Dermot Keely at Dundalk - with his gunslinger gait, and his unfliching determination to chop down anyone foolish enough to try to go past him.

Three red cards in four games (i think) ensured his cult status could not be undone by his subsequent managerial daliances with almost every LoI club.

Owen DaGama and Nelson daSilva for the sheer skill and razzmatazz when Derry joined the league and were playing in the first division and having crowds of 8-9000 at every home game. Them days were magic and these two players stand out for me.

For Wexford Youths I suppose the early cult heroes would be Paul "Patsy" Malone, he's not the most talented player in the world but he tries his heart out every game and loves a crunching challenge "Patsy's gonna get ya" is a fans favourite chant.
Liam "Locky the flying winger" O'Loughlin would be another one, left the squad to travel to the US to get his pilots licence last year, before returning this season, has now returned to junior football along with quite a few other senior squad players.

Dave I am dissapointed you left out the most important two

Dean Barrett and Ger Robinson :D

and these few others too:

Phillip Gorman
Darren Stapleton
Baba Isaaka
Alan Byrne

and Barry Clancy made an unforgivable mistake that cost us the game against Bray in the FAI Cup replay one year so he ain't a cult hero more of a cult villian, plus he ran off crying to Monaghan

Warty Nora.

Aye they are the ones.
Mystic Meg has quiet a fragrence, quiet a pungent stale p!ss smell.
Not to mention the multitude of homeless winos and general crustys, some good characters there.
One of the hobos there spent 20 minutes talking to me about the joys of fingering a certain area of his anatomy, ahh never a dull moment.

Madame Bridget - I still can't understand how people sit beside her outside Ulsteer Bank, hand over cash and have their palm 'read' in public, not even a manky auld caravan

Town Legend
27/08/2009, 7:59 AM
As mentioned before Sean Prunty, Zac Hackett, Digger O'Brien, Ritchie Parsons, Vinny Perth and Eric Lavine.

Also worth a mention is Paul McNally, if injury hadn't cut is Town career short Paul 'Gucci' Perth and Keith 'Mumbles' O'Connor for scoring all them goals to get us promoted!!

I'm not sure some of them qualify as cult heroes. I mean Prunty, Digger and Mumbles were all excellent players (at their level in the case of O'Connor) in their own right.

McNally was injured a year or two after he'd gone to Bohs, and I wouldn't have Lavine near any heroes list...

I'd have the rest on the cult heroes list though. How about the Bald Truck Driving Man?

Hairy Bowsie

I know she's never played but Noelle Feeney has done a great amount of work for CCFC over the years.

And then tried to sue the club when it was on it's knees. It's not hero status she deserves but a slap.

Stephen Geogahn tried something similar at Shels 3 years back and for that he will always be a C***, i don't care how many goals he scored for us.

That player is missed. Would be great to see him return in a coaching role.

http://www.afterschoolsoccer.com/
Ollie Keogh working with him now since Nigel Keady departed for the FAI.

A few Cult Heros for Da Town

1. Rod De Khors - Legend ... no explination required
2. Barry Murphy and Frank Darby - The dymanic duo! Barry was hard as nails and Frank could distract strikers with his eardrum piercing shreek!
3. Jamsie Coll ... we said we needed a manager and a centre half, he said I'll do both!
4. Stevie Gavin - Got taken off injured away to Mons so he came up to the stand and played the drum for us
5. Andy Myler - Goalscoring legend
6. Danny O'Leary - Broken fingers still couldnt stop him playing
7. Johnny Morris-Burke - Purly for his Mario Kempes stype perm at the time
8. Adrian Carberry - Legend always giving 100%. Got clocked one game, blood everywhere, physio ran on with the magic sponge. Cabsy took it, cleaned the blood off his new white boots, got up and played on
9. "Honorable" mention for Istavn "Stephen" Lakatos and Zolt "Joe" Pedro ... came over to Ireland without a word of English but quickly learned 3 important words ... Want ... More ... Money
