View Full Version : City for the Uefa Cup

Read in one of the Papers yesterday that City could yet be playing in the Uefa Cup next year........all down to the fair play point system again........All those countries with a coefficient over 8.0 will have their fairplay team put into a draw.....As Bohs(1st) are already in the Uefa cup then City (2nd) will be entered...All that needs to be done is for the Natinal team to keep their heads over the next few months...
if we are lucky enough (big bit of luck needed) then we'll be in the Uefa cup and Pats will get an intertoto spot...Wonder what a waste of time it will be then.......???????

i heard there was a one in six chance, so you'd never know. it'd be great for the league to have five clubs in europe (half our top flight).
it is a shame Pat's would have to turn it down since it's such a waste of time and since they were delighted to miss out, maybe waterford would take it:D :D :D :D

Hold on a sec, we were in this situation last year BUT Rovers were in the Inter Toto and were skiped over, hence it was our names up for the draw.
Surely we whould be skipped over this time and whoever came next after us (Pats was it?) would be put in for the draw.
Either way Im not holding my breath.

But last year we finished ahead of Rovers in the fair play table hence that is why we would have gotten it. Only people ahead of us is Bohs who have already gotten UEFA Cup
When are the uefa fairplay draw & the inter-two-bob draws made?

Ah, I thought that it was done by league positions.
no, its not done by league position. Even a club that gets relegated can still win a uefa cup place if they have won their home fair play award.
Last year we were in the draw for one of these places, surely we dserve it on luck alone
At the moment we have a one in six chance
read all about it here:-

We were in the same situation as you a couple of years ago when we went into the inter toto (which by the way nobody has claimed is a waste of time)
The deadline for "nominating" teams for the intertoto is before the Faor play draw so basically you have choice of guarenteed Inter toto or a 6/1 chance of UEFA Cup. I reckon you'll pick the intertoto which will leave us in the draw...
well, if thats the case i hope you get the place.
im just hoping we dont get a team from somewhere like Kazakhstan which would be too far to get to.
The faroe isles in june wouldnt be bad:)

Yeah the supposed "regionalised" intertoto draw. Judging by the last couple of draws where we got Croatia and Rovers got poland, you should be OK. (Although we got the better second round draw in Belgium...)
Are you sure about that Dodge?
AFAIK what you have to do is before a certain deadline submit your clubs intention to enter the Intertoto but not actually accept it until a much later date.
Remember a few years ago when Bradford City were in the intertoto because they applied even tho they finished 17th in the Premiership they got the place becaus everyone above them who entered their name turned it down.
*EDIT*
Found it on the FAI site.
Pats will get Intertoto if Ireland come out of the hat with City taking the UEFA spot. Odd of it happening are fairly low anyway

From the FAI:
"Cork are currently preparing for the Intertoto Cup and, should they be awarded a place in the UEFA Cup, St Patrick’s Athletic will take the Intertoto Cup place after finishing behind the Leesiders in the League last season."
