Only got a chance to read the programme from the Portugal game there at the weekend. Did anyone see the page about Israel?

Hostesses will greet us at the airport with flowers.
We'll be given passes for the various attractions and they're going to lay on free busses for us to some places of interest.
More importantly they've invited us to a beach party on Friday.
I'll get the exact info tonight but it looks like the beach on Friday could be our Eifel tower.

Hi there...

Sorry if I'm posting repeated questions.. I had a look through the Israel sticky and couldn't find the info I was looking for.

I'm thinking of going over to the Israel game on my tobler....
Is anyone else doing this? Does anyone know how many fans are expected over there for it?

Is it better to go with a travel agent for this one or what are people generally doing? I prefer to try to make my own arrangements but the scheduled flights from London are pretty dear (around 880 euro), then with accomodation on top of that...

Any tips/advice would be most welcome....

All the information you're looking for is on the sticky.
You could have posted this question on there too.

I'm going on my own from London but meeting up with the lads when I get there. We're expecting between 1,500 and 2,000 Ireland fans over there.

You've left it late for booking flights so you may find that using an agent is cheaper.

Right folks, the text from the programme is as follows.

Tel Aviv Ready for Green Invasion

The city of Tel Aviv eagerly awaits the arrival of the thousands of Irish fans expected for the Israel-Ireland match, March 26th, 2005.
As they step off the plane at Ben-Gurion International Airport, they will be greeted by hostesses with flowers and information on tourist opportunities in Tel Aviv.
Together with the local tourist office, the City Council will offer free tours to some of Tel Aviv's greatest attractions. Irish fans can enjoy City Pass concessions to tourist and cultural sites, as well as discount vouchers for shops and restaurants.
Jerusalem is just a short drive away, where you can visit the holy sites associated with Easter. March 25th is not just Good Friday, but also the Jewish carnival festival of purim.
The Tel Aviv City Council is inviting all the Irish fans to a huge beach party on that Friday. In the evening, many clubs will be running special parties into the small hours of the morning.

There are a few additional facts in a "Did you know?" section.
Basically saying the average temperature is 25C and draft Guinness is widely available.

Is anyone getting well up for this with every passing day!?
Hope they're not trying to distract us from the football... ;)

Would love to go to it would give anything to go but noone will come with me
My usual partner in crime is going to America and none of my friends have any interest in watchin the match on the telly never mind going over to Isreal to it...

Would go on my own but apparantly Isreal isn't that safe a place for a little girl like myself :o

Really nice to see the "great momentum" ( if you can call it like that ) that this thread is getting.

Ask every question you want cause in friday night im going to a vacation for a week ( Cancun , Mexico ) .

P.S- I don't think that many of you will see 'hostesses with flowers' because most of you will come from all over Europe, so i don't think it is possible :-) .
On the other hand, all the other thing's they wrote in the program are true .

Bonk,

please help me with these questions:

what is the best currency for Irish fans to bring to Tel Aviv?

do the night clubs really allow late admission 1.30 ~ 2.30 and go on all night on Thursday, Friday and Saturday? How much is the average admission price?

what is the average price of beer in Tel Aviv clubs and bars?

do the Israeli girls speak good English, and do they generally stay out clubbing late?

would you recommend the Sheraton Hotel Tel Aviv?

thanks for your help to Irish fans travelling to your country, hope to see yourself and all other foot.ie members at the beach party on the Friday before the match! Enjoy Mexico!

1) In Israel we have our local currency : NIS - New Israeli Shekel. This will be the most convienent if you will change it when you land in the airport.
Some places will take from you Euro's if you want , but to ask a beer or anything that dosn't cost a lot to pay in Euro's will be a problem .

2) Every club has their own policy about how much they take , and if they have "late admission " , so don't really count on it .
The price should be from 70 NIS to 100 NIS ( 12.5 Euro to 18 Euro ) .

3) Around 20 NIS

4) Yes , the girls should know English for a nice conversation ;) ( we start to learn here at third grade English , and everyone is taking English very seriously....so you should talk with them , but you never know ....maybe you will find someone that dosn't know to speek well ) .

5) Yep, very nice hotel !!!!

Peadar

Around 20 NIS

For a glass of beer? 500ml?
Blimey, I thought Dublin was expensive!

*Edit* I've just checked the rate and 20 NIS is about €3.50 so the panic is over. ;)

...maybe you will find someone that dosn't know to speek well

To the fan's party im sure it won't be a problem ( If you are over 18 of-course , because they will serve alcohol ) .

But in Israel , the club's have different theme every night....So one night the club is for 18 years old, and the other is for 25....
So if you are planing to go to a regualar party you should have with you some kind of I.D .

I arrive in Tel Aviv on Thurs lunch~time, so I have two totally free nights to enjoy the pre match craic and atmosphere. Hopefully I'll be half sensible boozing the day of the match so that I actually get to see the match ( and remember it ) and can then really go mad celebrating a famous Irish victory that night! 7.50 pm Israeli time is quife late for a kick~off, just means we'll have to party for longer into the wee small hours!

Swiss and France were good away trips last year but I think this Israel match will be fantastic! Great night clubs, beautiful beaches, gorgeous girls, great weather, what more could you ask for? ........

An Irish victory would be the icing on a very sweet cake!

I am travelling on my own also.
Forget scheduled flights they are over €500 up to about €2000.
Malev were the cheapest, then Alitalia...then it is a free for all.
Also the scheduled flights arrive in the middle of the night 3-5am. (Must be a security thing.) but this messes up your accomodation, do you book for that night or do you stretch it out until midday. But the same thing will apply going back, do you book for the day for when you are leaving the middle of the night.
Anyway, getting a charter flight is proving a bit difficult at the moment. The killer with travelling alone on the charter package is the single room supplement. It is pricey enough without another €70-90 !!!!!
What seems to be happening is that the flight + hotel (€760 - €1000 incl taxes) deals are not selling, so they have stopped selling seat only(€620-€670), until they sell all their rooms(Celtic Horizon, their website is saying it is sold out !). This is where I am stuck at the moment, a few people are saying to me that to leave it until the last minute as you may have a better chance of getting a seat and a better deal.
Also still awaiting confirmation on my ticket from the FAI,hopefully next week

Hi dubjohn/Eldad,
Just to let you know, booking a hotel with INISRAEL is a little hit and miss. The only way I could book it was using a firefox browser. Microsoft IE6.0 SP1 and netscape both failed. Eventually did it but the dates were wrong, could have been me or the website that made that mistake, my hotel booking is now sorted.
