Please, please tell me why this man is given a pedestal by the media?

He is on the Joe Duffy show now giving his opinion on the demise of Cork City.

I really don't get how he gets on the radio and TV anytime there is a sniff of a crisis.

From what I know of him he is a total Walter Mitty. The head of a massive supporters club of the International side but no one knows anyone else that is in it although he claims there are thousands.

Does anyone know this guys background?

Good to see people thought the same.

I emailed RTE complaining about the use of Hunter as an "expert"

It was Alan Hunter who kept referring to the league as the 'Eircom League'. I suppose the thing about this show is that its for the regular joe soap and I suppose Alan Hunter rang in, his point was made and he got airtime. He wasn't an expert but who was there to judge his knowledge as an expert. Certainly not Damian.

Anyhow my confidence in the programme was lost with Damian O'Reilly hosting. He knows nothing about the LoI whatsoever and just accepted what he heard. In fact he kept on reiterating the fact there were far more important things going on such as the rise in interest rates and people not knowing if they had a job in the morning. He said something to the effect people won't care tonight about a small football club. Correct me if I'm wrong but the point he was trying to make seemed to be that as in his mind, a football club is not that important as is the current economic state of the country.

The difficulty is that the general public may not see it that way

The biggest issue i have with it is the guy himself is not well. RTÉ continually call on him to speak and commit him to the limelight which in my opinion is a form of abuse. And they still take a license fee as our National Broadcaster. This tactics can only be described as tabloid when you look at it. It would be more in their line to get the guy some help instead of continually calling on a guy who has serious issues to be dealing with. Gutter journalism at its best.

They in this instance for the purpose of the programme that is liveline/ 'talk ta Joe' wouldn't be calling on him at all. He would be as every other caller to the show given airtime for having an opinion. I like Liveline occasionally but very very rarely. For the most part its shallow and ill founded ranting and supporting of fellowing ranters.

Are you saying that they dont ring people up to help 'stimulate' debate??

Well, i have one for you right here .... THEY DO ..... and they admit it themselves frequently. Joe Duffy has spoke about it loads of times.

I'll bow to your better knowledge then and if so its ridiculous. Could Damien O'Reilly correct him that its not the Eircom League. No because Damien didn't know his arse from his elbow in the whole discussion. I agree on Hunter and if they actually call him for opinon then thats ridiculous. I turned off someway through contribution. A combination of himself and O'Reilly near had me reaching for tranquilisers.
