View Full Version : Rovers not allowed play in Tallaght this weekend
The FAI today, Thursday, 16 July, expressed its disappointment at the unavailability of the Tallaght Stadium for Saturday evenings League of Ireland match between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers.
The FAI grants permission for all friendly fixtures on the clear understanding that there would be no effect on the playing of scheduled League of Ireland fixtures, all parties including South Dublin County Council were aware of that.
South Dublin County Council have for health and safety reasons refused Shamrock Rovers the use of the stadium. After several meetings between the parties involved, the FAI offered full assurances to provide all required personnel to address these concerns to allow this game to proceed as scheduled however South Dublin County Council has insisted that the stadium will remain closed.
Speaking today, Fran Gavin, League of Ireland Director said, “We are disappointed that this game will not go ahead in Tallaght. Last Thursday, (July 9th) the FAI received official notification of the council’s decision to close the venue and having tried to find a solution, including playing the game on Friday night, South Dublin County Council have decided that the game will not go ahead at the Tallaght Stadium. Shamrock Rovers have also expressed their disappointment at South Dublin County Councils decision. As a result, the game has now been rescheduled for Saturday evening at Tolka Park at 7pm.”

Fixture should have been reversed.
Fixture should have been reversed.
Surprised you didn't suggest walkover.

That's bizarre! I guess Platinum One are paying SDCC enough to make it worth their while peeing off Rovers and the FAI so that Madrid have a perfect pitch to play on.

Seriously, do you not think there were grounds for reversing the fixture, considering they were willing to jeopardise the staging of a scheduled league game to fulfil a friendly?

Presumably too short notice for Sligo to host the game.

I suppose that's what happens when you don't have your own stadium and you're relying on your landlords for permission.

Ha ha ha ha ha
the best run club in the country can't even get permission to play there games at "home":D
although on a more serious note once again the league plays second fiddle to foreign football
it's a sad day when even the CC would rather have a glamour friendly then an important league fixture:mad:
im just hopin that Rovers wont be so smug coming on and asking what we think about their ground when this quite clearly proves who calls the shots at the end of the day - SDCC. :D

It makes the "TALLAGHT" on the backs of their new jerseys all the more laughable :D
BTW if the FAI had any balls they'd cancel the permission for the Madrid game.
And if Rovers had any balls, they'd pull out of the friendly

To me, that's it. If the FAI did provide assurances (a big if?), then it is the SDCC taking a new interest in the pitch that previously they couldn't care less about. I mean if it was safe for Newcastle with a bigger attendance, use of temporary seats and no doubt all H&S worries will be miraculously cleared for Monday...
Probably would get as big or bigger amount of travelling Hoops on a Saturday to Sligo than Tolka.

My god, that seems like a view of someone who is angry with the world...wonder would you feel the same if it was your club involved:confused:
And before its gets into a debate about who owns what grounds i just feel that there is an awful lot of Jealousy towards rovers from other clubs.
And for the record Sligo were asked to stage the game but couldnt due to work been carried out on it i believe.

Nice windfall for Shels. Will Rovers have to pay the rent or are Tallaght County Council going to cover it I wonder.

You would assume Rover's would have to pay the rent, But they would not have to pay SDCC rent for this weekend as they are not playing there, so they wont be out of pocket....

Fixture should have been reversed.
And it would have been, had Sligo's ground been available. But don't let facts get in the way of one of your anti-Rover's rants, it never has before.

That fact mitigates absolutely nothing as far as Shamrock Rovers or SDCC are concerned, if anything it exacerbates it...

And it would have been, had Sligo's ground been available. We probably just told you that(and rightfully so) as it's awful short notice for us to be staging the game...afaik, there's not work going on in the Showgies now that would have made the ground unavailable.

No, not at all..
Should contact Dublin Bus especially Summerhill depot to get their window maintenance engineers ready too.

I think George Mullen and Co were doing work on and off this summer on the pitch this summer Sligoman. Well thats what i understood was happening but not 100%.

My post was not anti Rovers, it's anti FAI
Rovers obviously can't afford to **** off SDCC and platinum so they must play the game. Every single club in the league would do likewise. The post above was of course slightly tongue in cheek

Whatever about your quote being tongue in cheek, how was it anti FAI, you suggested that they use their rulebook to call off the Madrid game.
As i see it thats not anti FAI:confused:

It's anti-FAI because we all know that the FAI won't use the rulebook to force the game through.
I suggested it because any half decent football association would value their league over a meaningless friendly
The FAI are not a half decent association and will bend over and take it hard from platinum and real Madrid

Money always talks - the FA will reschedule games to allow Man Utd compete in essentially a meaningless world club competition. Remember they were allowed opt out of the FA Cup for the same reason.

The bulding work gong on I'd assume?
Hold on- can somebody explain why this has happened? The games so far at Tallaght have seen the crowd only in one stand- so how does the work for the friendlies affect things?
It all just seems so unnecessary.
Assuming you're not being sarcastic....
SDCC and platinum don't want to have hackers on the pitch before Real madrid get on it
But at this time of year there's feck all chance it'd make any real difference to the pitch. This seriously does not make much sense to me.

I would rather the game wasnt moved, but in fairness Ronaldo making his debut in a Madrid shirt is the biggest thing that is going to happen in the world of football next week with all eyes on Tallaght, so it no surprise that Madrid and Plat1 are trying to orchestrate the whole thing to the nth degree.
In the long run, if more of the top teams come here for pre-season training it will be good for football in this country.

Isn't Madrid game going to be a big pay day for Rovers and why would anyone in their right mind risk that in a league that is crying out for money.
I don't know the facts on the money but would imagine it would be worth a decent amount to Rovers. A pay day Bohs , Cork , Derry etc would love to have upcoming.

With the game on Sky Sports as well it could be case of all concerned SDCC etc. wanting the pitch to look top notch.

SDCC might be doing what we did a few years back for an FAI Cup semi-final that was televised - painting the pitch green. I kid you not, that was done in Terrylsand to make the pitch look 'good' on telly, so maybe that is what is happening in tallaght seen as the game is on Sky Sports, they can't risk the pitch for the TV audience. That is my reading of it anyway

It was also a condition that if United didn't travel to play in the World Club Championship then the proposed England bid for the 2006 World Cup would have been thrown out
