I'd be happy with that too. I predicted the right score last night, so going to stick my neck out again and go for Skonto 1-1 Derry, Pats 0-0 Valletta. I'd take those scores to be honest.

I think Derry will get a result.

I'm in irrational fan mode now, so we'll beat the Maltesers 3-0

Riga 1 Derry City 1

Pats 1 Valetta 0

Fingers crossed anyway. I think If derry get a draw tonight they will go through. Dont fancy Pats over two legs but I think they could win tonight.

I think Pat's will benefit hugely from the signing of Fabio. Their system is geared towards using the front-man as a pivot for attacks. Now that they have someone who can run a little bit and finish, as opposed to Harris, their fortunes could change dramatically. I think they might score tonight, 1-0 or 1-1 I reckon.

Skonto vs. Derry looks like a 1-1.

Interesting article on the Latvian league in this month's When Saturday Comes, by the way. Seems to be falling apart quicker than ours. Apparently, the pitches were all frozen at the start of the season, so the first round of games were played at an indoor venue which had 200 chairs along one side. Pitch was only about 80 yards long and the roof was too low. Clubs talking about increasing attendances by signing young locals who'll bring a few mates along to watch them.

I'll go with a draw in both games. Pat's game depends on how much two decent players can influence what's still a Maltese league team.

I remembered reading a scanned version of that article, I think it may have been on the DCFC forum. Will try and locate it.

Skonto 1 - 5 Derry (I f*cking wish!)
Pats 1 - 0 Valetta

The Valetta fans better sing the bit of The Proclaimers' 500 miles that sounds like their name, or I'll be writing a letter of complaint to RTÉ.

From my analysis of the games:

Skonto 0-2 Derry
St Pats 1-0 Valetta

16/07/2009, 2:23 PM
Skonto 2-1 Derry
Pats 2-0 Valetta

Away goal and a narrow defeat wouldn't be a bad result for Derry, I think it's a difficult trip. Pats are probably the most unpredictable team in the league this year but Fabio will give them a natural goal scorer which they've been crying out for, I'm hopeful they'll produce the goods.

I would have thought...." if you go,wont you send back VALETTA from america" would sound better(If insisting on a proclaimers track;))

Thunder storms?

Looks good (http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=riga%2C+latvia&searchType=WEATHER) the next two days, so could be moved to tomorrow I assume?

Shouldn't you be drinking cheap Latvian beer at this stage though? :)

What a bitch for those over on short breaks. Can't be helping club finances either.

Hopefully it gets played, and Derry get the right result

Posted on DCFC forum:

"Massive thunderstorm and flooding over an hour ago. Starting to dry up now and hopefully the worst weather passed through so game should be fine but going to be a wet surface."

How many Derry fans travelled over?

thischarmingman
16/07/2009, 2:47 PM
Not sure, but Radio Foyle mentioned contacting Michael O'Leary to discuss the possibility of letting fans stay an extra day for no extra flight charge. Pie in the sky methinks!

Worst comes to the worst I'm going to dander down the road to Richmond Park anyway.

Come down anyway. ;)

Strongly considering it at the moment Dodge, depends on our result/alcohol consumption! We finish around 20 to 8 and within 5/10 min taxi run of Richmond so we may well rush down to offer our support...in full Derry gear obviously! What's the ticket situation like? It's not going to sell out is it?

MariborKev

I reckon about 150-200 travelled.

Might be in Richmond myself, assuming I get out of here in due course.

Don't even start me about it.....

Was expressely warned in work that if I was sick they would want me to be seen by a company doctor to confirm any illness.....:)

However with the number of drunken texts/photo messages/calls I have got in the last two days I might as well be there.

Think both are good enough to get positive results, though Pats have been unpredictable this season.

Good luck to both of you this evening and lets hope you both do your bit to make this a really good couple nights for the LOI:)
