Faz and Doherty are two totally different situations.
Faz was a player of huge potential that pulled moments of brilliance out of the bag at important times in a game, often match winning performances combined with infurating spells of lack lustre motivation. Indeed it was frustrating to watch but I never abused Faz for that because in the end of the day he pulled it out fo the bag when it mattered.
As for Doherty, that is totally different, he has never performed for us, and tbh I cant think of one match winning performance he has had for us, hes been complete mediocrity since he came and a constant weak link in the team.
So to come to the point, your own example contradicts itself, since both Faz and Doherty got stick but one performed the other didnt. I dont think anyone is claiming it will "help" a palyer, more give them a much needed boot up the arse when they seem to think that respectable losses are acceptable when we are in the middle of a relegation battle.
Spot on.
My point is stick of any player is unlikely to help the player improve his performance.
Faz seemed to take the stick to heart given his lack of goal celebrations in his latter days at the Showgies and his shouting at the main stand after scoring a couple of others. It would be tough to say his performances came from the stick he gotr from the crowd rather than what the dwarf, Cookie or Carr might have said to him.
Having said that I take your point on Doherty.......it didnt seem to be arsedno matter what stick he got!!

Would you take time to properly read my post properly when I said it was not helpful to abuse the players during a match and i continued to say that naturally comments on this forum are quite acceptable, I never mentioned 7 days a week. Not sure if you ever played the game but local newspaper reports are usually fairly factual and as an ex player reading something here is much more acceptable than having stupid abuse being hurled at an individul player during a match. What you are suggesting is that we never make a comment about the team, this would be a first world wide in the game of soccer. Whats the s..t about all being brothers, we are football fans and dearly love Sligo Rovers Football Club, so dont be coming on here misrepresenting what people are saying
B]that naturally comments on this forum are quite acceptable,[/B] Naturally ??? anyway my opinion is that is double standards.
B]I never mentioned 7 days a week[/B I know you didnt - I did, this forum is available seven days a week, negaive posts are posted here 7 days a week - simple as.

Played football in Ireland, UK and USA and I am a qualified FAI coach.
From under 8s to Junior football teams I coach I have never seen criticism spoken or written benefit any of them, constructive advise on their game has - as Cookie and Gerry would do.
Having gone to Carrington as part of my FAI badges you would see that at the uderage games any comments from parents at the games result in those parents been asked to leave and any verbal abuse from fellow teamates is also not tolerated and results in the offending player being substituted.#
Also if you read the FA or UEFA study on Psychology in the game (FA book is freely available on web etc) you would see studys prove any verbal written or physical indtimidation doe snot benefit players of any age.........but why let research and facts get in the way.

lads just reading these posts on abusing players at the games etc.. seen it for years and it seems its a mindset of some fans, no matter what they love to abuse their own tean and certain players each year become a scapegoat.
maybe we need to start a "Rovers Pride" campaign...
Funny thing is if the opposition fans abuse out players we will take offence and defnd them, however it seems acceptable when its our own fans abusing our own players.
Seen it many tiems after games lads come into pubs giving it welly about Rovers and players, yet when MOD comes on in the pub and the banter starts you better not say a bad word about Liverpool,Man Utd, Arsenal......etc.

Ya ! Its been happening for years..... I remember when Nickey Brujos played in goals and had a weekly column in the weekender at the same time.He used to get dogs abuse from behind the goals on churchhill side. But without fail he used to mention a few lads every week without fail who would dicuss the match after with him.He thought these fellas were the business yet these were the fellas who used give him dogs abuse from the terrace.I dont think he knew.
Just pointing out that this has been going on years and I feel that once people pay in the gate it gives them a right to abuse the players.i really dont understand that mindset.
your also right about MOD I seen friends fallout over abusing Man U Liverpool Leeds etc.If they would put that much energy into Rovers we might have a successful team.

I have also played football in Ireland and recently played football in my friend's back garden in San Francisco, I also helped out cutting half-time oranges for the under 8s once, maybe we should meet up

Played in the local league only, so that's just 2, Ireland and Leitrim.
