Can we get three points after the break some of the players where looking tried and had some niggling injuries before the break hopefully break did them good. Can we pick back up the standard after some poor performance against Longford in the cup and league albeit got the three points in Longford but did not play very well?

also kick off time for this game has been switched to 7.30pm

Yep, I'll be making the trip. Battery Rover will too.
Dunno if there are many others travelling though.

Long trip but worth is for the feed alone :)

Very pleasing win for the Youths tonight 'cos like the last league win against Longford before the break, there wasn't much between the two sides and the Youths had to put Gavin in goal midway through the first half when Packie collapsed in a heap while trying to control the ball and without a player nearby. Looked like knee ligaments. Youths had played well up to this with Gavin heading over from a good cross from Vickers. Jimmy Keohane came on to play with Gary Sheahan up front when Packie went off and game then went into a lull from Packie's injury up to half time. Gavin did make one good save pushing a curling shot destined for the top corner around the post.

Wexford played better in the second half with Shane Dempsey and Peter White beginning to win a few tackles in midfield and then proddiing the ball down the channels for Gary to run onto. The goal came from one of these balls when Gary did brilliantly to get to a down-the-line ball before the Athlone centre-half, got half a yard and then stuck in a low cross for Jimmy Keohane to neatly tuck away with his left from inside the six yard box. Athlone then had a good chance when one of their forwards pushed the ball past Gavin but it was cleared by a Youths defender just before crossing the line. With ten minutes to go, JFOC got a second yellow for barging into the Athlone wideman but a few more reasonable saves from Gavin kept the score at 1-0. Thought Gary Sheahan was excellent up front and Jimmy Keohane also held the ball up very well when it was played to his feet. Win against Limerick next week would cement fifth place.

Sheehan was brilliant for the goal, Dempseys pass looked like a lost cause but he did amazing to win it, keep it in, spot JK and hit the perfect cross for him.
Not a great game or performance though, Athlone missed a few sitters but overall i would have been disappointed not get the three pts.

I would have been happy with a draw after losing packie early on,which meant we were without our three best outfield players.(G Doyle,C Sinnott and P Malone).
But in fairness the team should plenty of character in the second half to grind out the result.
Gary Sheehan work very hard all night and did brilliantly to cross the ball in to Keohane for the goal.

Athlone played some nice football at times on the attack and i'd imagine are dissapointed not to have got anything out of the game.

Why no keeper on the bench??

Wallace never does, not with only 5 subs available, maybe if they increased to 7 subs he would.
Doyle was great in goal, really looked the part, finger tipped save for a lob, great handling.

Indeed he did fill in admirably
