Longford Town’s most successful season yet has been reflected in the expansion of the club’s fanbase, with involvement in the supporters club in both the midlands town and in Dublin continuing to grow in strength and numbers.

Lately a new branch was formed in the County Longford village of Ballinalee and it is even hoped to set up a branch among exiles in the Big Apple shortly.

The supporters’ group continues to perform a valued service at Flancare Park, engaging in valuable fund-raising activities.

Next on the agenda is the completion of a function room at the ground.

In addition they travel in large numbers on away days (and nights) up and down the country displaying exemplary behaviour all the time.

Alan Matthews’s side brought over 2,000 fans to Richmond Park for the League Cup final against St. Patrick’s Athletic in August, when a 4,500 attendance saw the home side prevail on a 1-0 scoreline.

When Longford Town reversed the result in the FAI Cup final at Lansdowne Road two months later, over 15,000 showed up at Lansdowne Road on the October Bank Holiday Sunday.

The club is currently open for new members until the end of February and application forms can be had from secretary Frank Murtagh at Flancare Park.

Is that the club or supporters club?
