Taxi will cost between €6 & €10 I would estimate. Depends if its a mini bus one for a few of you or just 1 or 2 in a car.

Its far enough. Go to google maps and put in the bus station and the Hillgrove Hotel and you can see how far. If you talk nicely to the bus driver he might drop you off at the cathedral and its only a short walk to the Hillgrove from there.

It will prob close early enough as we will probably all be going to the Squealing Pig as there is a reception on there as part of the FAI AGM. That said we might stick around for awhile!

There will be a shortage of rooms due to the FAI AGM so get your skates on.

The Westenra Arms Hotel is right in the centre of town and its phone number is 047 74400 or a bit out of the town is the Four Seasons Hotel 047 81888

B&B wise you could try the following: Hilldene House 047 83297, Ashleigh House 047 81227, Melrose House 047 84711, Ban Bridge 047 71426 or Grove Lodge on 047 84677

Lakeside Self Catering Apartments number is 086 8058040

Apologies for bouncing an old thread (can't post a new one yet!) but I'm hoping to see a game later this year and would appreciate some info..

I hope to stay in one of the local b&b's listed above, but won't be coming by car, so can you tell me if there are there any buses from town centre to/near the ground?
Or, if i can stay in the Canal Lodge, is it feasible to walk there from town?

Thanks.

Hi Ali, no problem at all for resurrecting the thread. There is no local bus service as such but a taxi should only cost between €5-8 from the town centre/bus depot to the Canal Lodge B&B. It is possible to walk and if it is a sunny day it is a lovely stroll from the town of about 1.5 miles. Canal Lodge is the perfect place to stay if you are intending going to the game and not going out in Monaghan after. If you are intending to party in Monaghan after the game I would recommend you stay in Ashleigh House as it is a short stroll from all the best pubs and clubs in the town and therefore less hassle than getting a taxi back to Canal lodge at 2am!

If you have any questions, give me a shout!

Thanks for all the info. I'll definitely try and get there later this year.
