I'm not a WUM and I stand by what I said. I never said that Staunton's reign was a roaring success, far from it. I said he showed enough flashes of promise during his time in a job that wasn't made easy for him to make me think he could succeed as a manager given enough experience. If you think that's an unreasonable position to hold, fair enough, but don't call my credibility into question just because you don't share my views.

The flashes of promise & the good performances you mentioned were basically the Irish players doing what they do best when their backs are against the wall & giving it their all. A lot of criticism & stick was thrown at the players / team in general and it was only natural that reacted in that manner. It had nothing to do with Stan's managerial ability but the natural gutsy attitude of our team. We still had no tactics or strategies in those games & Stan sure as hell can't claim responsibility for those matches.

Jim Gannon has verbally agreed to take the Motherwell job. What he did at Stockport with limited resources was very impressive. I wonder does he have ambitions to manage at International level?

Unlike the man in the thread title, he holds a full UEFA pro licence, has experience with management and actually has a personality. The SPL has proved to be a good breeding ground for young managers so hopefully it works out for him and sometime in the future, he'll be candidate for a vacant Irish national managerial position.

Hope it goes well for him.
