We actually did this in one of the hovels, sorry, houses that I lived in whilst a student. Between the eight of us living there, not one could be arsed to take the decorations down after New Year so we decided to leave them in situ until the following Christmas. They'd lost a lot of their lustre by then, being covered in dust, smoke stains and all, but they were still unquestionably Christmas decorations and did the job just fine.

Your wouldn't all have been blokes, would you? Don't think I'm being sexist to suggest that all girls love Xmas decorations and could not accept tatty ones. Blokes might appreciate the effort put into them but are fairly unlikely to care one way or t'other
