Any rumours floating around regarding any signings this transfer window? I'd imagine things are pretty tight with budgeting but I reckon we could use one experienced signing at least. I think we need a midfielder with some dig in him to play alongside Finn, a Paul Crowley type.

I really doubt we'll sign anyone, barring scholarships. We didn't sign experienced players when we were struggling in the Premier. We'll hardly shell out when we're top of the first.

We brought in Hynes and Muprhy in 2007. They didn't really work out, but they were experienced Premier Division players by the standards of those we usually sign.
But yeah, can't really see anyone joining this summer bar scholarships.

Any truth in the rumours that Timmy Purcell could be on his way out?? He has shown good form of late and would be a loss to the squad.

Garvan Broughall seems to be a midfielder, but he's played up front and at centre half. Seems to have an eye for a long range shot. http://indigo.ie/~bvr/Milkcup06reports.htm
This mentions Harney as 'just back from international duty'. He was playing as a centre half there, but so was Broughall.

This mentions Ireland U16s duty for him:

From his place in the team listing, he was a defender (possibly a full back?)
Both appear to have been U15 two years ago, so probably just turned 17.

They seem to have been in FAI development squads too.

Garvin is 18
I will post an article regarding them signing tomorrow as the paper that is featuring it hasn't gone to press yet.

Town Target Broughall Opts for UCD
Former Belvedere Boys central defender Garvan Broughall signed for League of Ireland First Division outfit UCD last Saturday morning on a scholarship deal. The Athlone native, who also attracted interest from his hometown club, signed for the Dublin based college side after a series of talks over the past number of months and will train for the first time with hi8s new team-mates on Wednesday evening, with the first fixture next Monday away to Bray Wanderers. Speaking about the deal, Broughall declared that he was delighted at finally putting pen to paper.
“Well, I’m delighted to be honest to be signing for the club. I think UCD is a great club and I really think I can improve as a player and use this platform to develop my abilities. They are well known as a good ball-playing team who keep the ball well and I was used to a similar style while playing for Belvedere Boys, so hopefully that can continue. I met Martin Russell a number of times over the past while and I was really impressed with what he had to say. He really sold the club to me and convinced me that this was where I want to play my football. I’m just looking now to getting my place in the 20’s team and working hard and then we’ll see what happens in the future. Obviously playing for the first team is a real target for me but I just have to focus on how I play for the under 20’s first.” said the Irish Youth international.
Broughall (18) also revealed that it wasn’t just the football side of things that swayed a move.
“Well I just finished my leaving cert there in June and I’ve applied to go to college there next year so it’s a great move overall. The facilities up there are excellent on both the sports and academic sides so that was important.”
UCD weren’t the only team to be interested in the player with Sporting Fingal and Athlone Town looking to have the player’s signature also but Broughall further explained his decision.
“Well I was aware of some interest from Athlone and Fingal as well but I just felt that UCD was a better option. I had a few conversations with Brendan Place and with Dermie Lennon before him but I just feel that I will progress better with UCD at this stage in my playing days. I had to look at both the academic and sports side as I said. UCD offered me a complete package that appealed to me and I had to go for that although I do wish Brendan and Athlone all the best for the season.”
“Neil (Harney) and a few other ex- Belvedere lads have signed as well so hopefully that will make it easier to settle in.”
One fixture that Broughall certainly would have looked for was the game against Athlone Town and indeed the two sides meet on the 25th of July in UCD and Broughall said he was “looking forward to seeing some familiar faces.”
UCD last weekend started their 2009 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Athlone’s rivals Longford Town.

I believe ye are signing an Ireland Schools player by the name of Tomas Boyle. A centre back from Roscommon. He's had offers from yerselves, Bohs, Shels, Bray and Athlone but is apparently keen to go to UCD for academic reasons. His cousin is a good friend of mine.
