Robbie Keane is believed to a target for Sunderland with manager Steve Bruce expected to make a £15 million bid for the Tottenham Hotspur striker.

A report in today's Irish Independent suggests that Spurs manager Harry Redknapp could be prepared to listen to offers for the Republic of Ireland's top scorer as he needs to sell to fund any summer transfers.

The Mackems have already expressed an interest in Keane's Spurs strike partner Darren Bent, but the acquisition of Keane would be a much more attractive offer to chairman Niall Quinn and the club's large Irish following. Now, I don't know or care whether this report has any substance or is simply a masturbatory fantasy on the Indo's part, but when RTÉ pick the ball up and run with it, the result is formidable. In fact, I'm worried these reports might create a feedback loop of barstool philistinism which could consume the universe.

They bled Cork dry with rampant shirt sales before Judas walked out, now they're trying to target Tallaght!

I think the fact that Keane is a target for anyone is comedy enough in itself.

Nice one! The Portman Road brigade must be salivating at the thought of all the ex-Sunderland 'supporters' about to jump ship to Ipswich Town. Bunch o' Wallies!
