I don't think that's an absolute rule though. Like if you have what seems like a perfect chance for you to score should you not go ahead, take responsibility, and just score the goal despite a call from behind you? I think that applies even more so to defending, where the main objective is to just clear the bloody thing without any messing - so if you've a chance to do that should you not just do it? And as Dodge says, especially if you're the centre-half?
You'll never play alongside me then son:D

It was a routine ball that Sledge looked like he was going to deal with, before he visibly left it (presumably following Killer's call).
Kilbane called Sledge off and misjudged it, and in my view is 100% at fault.
Love the guy but to put any blame at all on Sledge is totally unfair.
The only thing he was guilty of was trusting a teammate!

It's true that even if you get a call you should still trust your intuition but I think when the call comes from behind you, as it did, you leave it. Clearly KK had the best read of the situation.
Also, when a veteran calls for it any guy making his first start would leave it too. Imagine SSL went for it and either collided with KK or didn't get any distance on his clearance.
KK accepts all the blame & rightly so.

How many caps has Kev got now-must be v close to the 100. Was painful to see him mess up so badly for the goal. If we dont qualify for the WC I wouldnt be surprised if he quit at that stage but he would be missed-great servant to Irish soccer.
I think both Shay and KK are now tied on 96 caps. If they play against Australia, SA and Cyprus then it could be a great night for them both in Croke Park when Italy come to town.

For the record I thought St Ledger was as culpible for the goal on Saturday.
Kilbane called it. Kilbane has nearly 100 caps, St Ledger has 2. Killer should have dealt with it, even if he hadn't called it he was the experienced head and should have got rid. It was an awful error where he was 100% at fault and man enough to admit it himself.

You don't retire from being Irish. If Trap doesn't need him he won't pick him.

I've seen an interview with Kilbane where he said he'd keep playing for Ireland as long as he was picked in the squad and felt needed.
Good enough, and you wouldn't expect anything less from Killer.

I agree Kilbane is a hero. But nobody seems to realise (including trap) that we have a ready made replacement for left full. The lad Stephen Ward from wolves. He played most games in a championship winning team. Its a disgrace the way he didnt get a call up.He was originally a striker but Mick McCarthy has turned him into a left full.He had a great season. If he plays next year in the Premiership and also proves himself,he'll be a great shout for the position.

He played against Nottingham Forest in the B game last November. I didn't think he had a great game to be honest, Keith Andrews came from central midfield to help him out on more than one occasion.

Through a combination of injury and loss of form, I think Ward lost his place at left full by the end of the campaign (correct me if I'm wrong).
While I think he's worth considering if he's playing there regularly for Wolves in the Prem, I still think he'd be a stop-gap solution until a proper left full emerges.
But hey, I'd be extremely happy if he proves me wrong and has a great Premier League season and transfers that form onto the national team stage.

Good post there irishfan, esp the last bit. I sometimes get the feeling that too many posters have the first bit of the post when not rating a player but do not have the final bit of your post which actually hopes he proves you wrong.

He didn't start 2 of the last 6 games, but was introduced from the bench in both. The only games he wasn't involved with in 2009 were the Cup game VS Middlesbrough, Bristol away in January and Palace away in March
