Preview of qualifying group, all four teams look strong with Rasmus Jonsson from Sweden and Eden Hazard from Belgium both tipped to be stars of the future. Ireland have a good squad but are the youngest team and are missing both mcCarthy and Dixon who did not recover in time.

Squad
Kieron Thorp (Crystal Palace)
Ciaran Gallagher (Finn Harps)
Lanre Oyebanjo (Histon)
Callum O’Connor (Blackburn Rovers)
Gavin Gunning (Blackburn Rovers)
Callum Morris (Newcastle United)
Richie Towell (Celtic)
Damian McCrory (Plymouth Argyle)
Conor Hourihane (Sunderland)
Conor Clifford (Chelsea)
Gearoid Morrissey (Blackburn Rovers)
Conor Henderson (Arsenal)
Aaron Doran (Blackburn Rovers)
Jamie Devitt (Hull City)
Sean Scannell (Crystal Palace)
Greg Cunningham (Manchester City)
Ronan Murray (Ipswich Town)
James Collins (Aston Villa)
I'm guessing Towell and McCrory are in as right and left full backs but Towell has been playing central midfield for Celtic U19s any time I've seen him and McCrory is listed as a midfielder too.
Collins was top scorer in the Villa academy with 23 goals so he'll probably be the one we'll be looking to get the goals.
I'm liking the look of that midfield, even without McCarthy.

That will be one confusing midfield.
Manager: Kick it to Conor! NOT THAT ONE DAMMIT!

It's a shame that McCarthy isn't available but looking at the Swedish squad and looking at our squad, I'd be confident enough that we have a better pick of players than them at least.

It's a very young team with alot of the lads U-19 again next year. Ronan Murray has made great strides with Ipswich Town and is now scoring a few goals for the reserves. He didn't even make last years U-17 Irish squad so it's been a good year for him.

Did we just miss an entire year of footballers or what's the story? Our U21's were full of U19's and our U19's are full of U18's.

I know it's unlikely, but is the game available anywhere? Or just score updates on livescores.net?

Our U21's were full of U19's and our U19's are full of U18's.No, it's just FAI policy to undermine the chances of any success in this type of tournament. We can walk away with a moral victory because we were younger than the opposition and the coaches can escape any blame.

Aran Doran suspended for tonights game and Scannell starts on the bench.

Not surprised Scannell is on the bench, Palace wanted him sent home and were making veiled threats about not being so cooperative in releasing players in future if he picks up an injury, he hasn't played in months.

It seems McCaffrey's going wrong somewhere...
Shane Duffy should surely be in that squad?

Ireland lads finish off with a win against Sweden. Doran and Collins with the goals.

good that we finished with a win, but worrying that we are behind belgium and swiss at this age group...
what are they doing that we aren't? Is it more U19 playing in a professional domestic league?

Switzerland have been producing really decent underage teams now for quite a while.

and Belgium have got their act together again recently too at underage level.

Good to round it off with a win and from a Harps point of view, great to see Ciaran Gallagher do so well.

Where do Sweden's underage sides rank? Is beating them 2-1 a good result?
