Setanta Sports confirm more live televised matches

Cork City’s fixture against Dundalk at June 19th will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports, it was confirmed today. The Rebel Army host the Lilywhites at Turner’s Cross as Paul Doolin’s side attempt to maintain their title challenge, and football fans will be able to follow the action live on Setanta Sports Ireland.

The broadcaster has also confirmed that it will screen live coverage of St. Patrick’s Athletic v Shamrock Rovers at Richmond Park on July 4th. Jeff Kenna’s Saints host the Hoops looking to close the gap on their city rivals in a match that will also be screened live on Setanta Sports Ireland.

Setanta Sports will this season screen a total of twelve live League of Ireland fixtures, as well as the EA SPORTS Cup Final.

 They are showing a game outside of Dublin, that's a disgrace, I can't believe it. Someone should write to them and tell them how they are going wrong, don't they know it's a Dublin league?

When are we going to get a game on TV? Guess we'll just have to wait til TG4 come along during the summer and show some of our matches

Anyone have the list of how many times each team has been televised live?

Fears intensified for the future of Setanta last night as it emerged it has defaulted on a payment to the Scottish Premier League. Sources north of the border have confirmed a routine payment to SPL clubs, thought to total about £3m, did not arrive as scheduled yesterday

Interesting

I believe that is correct. All parts of Setanta are separate.

Will RTE or TG4 still show live games this season? If yes - when? Because I can't watch Setanta in Germany but want to watch LoI soccer live...

It's understandable that an Irish language broadcaster is going to favour Gaeilge speaking areas, plus i'm pretty sure they showed other teams too.

However the NATIONAL broadcaster should be a bit more unbiased.

After all if Bohs are playing in Tallaght, a Bohs fan has no excuse for not been there, my point been that commuting times in Dublin are less then what most of us face every second week and their alienating a potential away support audience by screening neighbours.

Also it's not like the EPL where barstoolers only want to see one team(Man Utd, they don't want to see any), by showing a good mix of clubs it would raise the profile of the league as a whole

Other than the fact that it was sold out!

Games aren't screened for away fans to watch them anyway, TV companies will show the game that more people want to watch. Bohs v Rovers is probably the biggest game of the season, it makes perfect sense to show it.

If I had my way, I'd ban everyone who complains about their team not being on TV enough. Seriously.

Double bans for people who post that its OK for one stage to cater for their audience, but not for another because it suits their argument.

Sorry i should have stated i was picking two random Dublin teams, was no basis for them or the venue, but in Bohs 7/8 games there wouldn't have been any shortage of tickets.

Are the viewing figures any higher?, because i can't see many barstoolers caring who the teams are?!

Great argument:rolleyes:

I never complained about it, i offered my opinion on TG4's selection, it's understandable that they are going to favour clubs from counties where they draw a lot of viewers.

My problem with the other two channels is more to do with Bohs featuring in every game then a Dublin bias, i just think as the national broadcaster they should represent the country as a whole and not Bohs( or GUFC for that matter) as the definitive LOI team

Easy for you to say, Pats are on tv all the time, Harps and their Brazil like brand of football should be shown at least 3 times a week.

Only Harps should be shown, it's not very fair when they show another team at the same time, that's just taking away from our spotlight.

We will have training tonight in Ballybofey if anyone has a camera, who wants to see Corrie, Eastenders, Emerdale and the news?

If you hang upside down from the ceiling while wearing a deep water diving suit for at least two hours (and turn screen sideways) it clearly says "everyone has it in for Derry. Refs hate us. The FAI hate us. Pat Fenlon is a c***t. He hates us too.shels hate us. We were robbed".:)

You're confusing the above with the front page of the Derry Journal. :D

I'm glad to see your penchant for hanging from the ceiling in a wet suit has slipped out. Though you neglected to mention the orange and dernier tights...... ;)

Can you not even read your own ****ing post?!? Its OK for tg4 to show Galway as that’s where most of their viewers are, buts its not OK for setanta to show Dublin sides more even that’s where the majority of their viewers are?! You honestly can't see the contradiction here? And remember that as Setanta is based on subscriptions, they're in a better position to know their potential audience than any of the terrestial broadcastors.

I didn't say it was ok, i said that's my view on it. There are more Gaeltachts this side of the country, at any rate they didn't show us every game.

Ya sure people subscribe to Setanta for the LOI , at any rate it's Setanta Ireland that shows them...and wait that's FREE in the city's

Not even going to argue with ya, your just a power tripping mod', always have and will be abusive, would love to see you take that attitude offline, you wouldn't be long put in your place.

And now you're threatening me because you fail to understand that Setanta knows EXACTLY how many people in each city have access to their programming, and therefore plan accordingly.

They're a limited company and have no obligations to anyone.

How can you not understand this?

gilberto_eire
17/06/2009, 2:24 PM

I wasn't talking about Setanta originally, i was talking about RTE, they as the national broadcaster should be showing a fairer mix of teams instead of including Bohs in the majority of games.

Setanta Ireland are supposed to be in profit and separate from the UK operation, but given how many programmes they share - the news channel, Euro league highlights, UFC - I'd imagine the Dublin station will also be wound up Monday. Don't know how much the LoI are getting for the rights, but when you add in the Setanta Cup (supposedly worth €1m per season), Pats and Drogheda look to be screwed. Tough times ahead, especially when many SPL clubs are also fearing the worst.

The only thing the share is the news thing. Everything else they buy the irish rights to

Setanta Sports don't pay anthing near €1milllion inot the LOI per season
