Sligo Rovers are pleased to announce that they will be holding a 7-a-side competition for the Packie McGowan Memorial Cup in June. The competition will be run over two weeks beginning on Tuesday June 16th and it is limited to 32 teams. The winners of the Packie McGowan Memorial Cup will also receive a first prize of €1,000 with the runners-up receiving €300. Teams are to be made up of a panel of ten players (seven starting and three subs) and no current League of Ireland players or players aged under 16 are allowed to take part. The cost of entry per team is €150 and this is to be paid before Friday June 5th with the draw for the competition to be held the following week.
There will be eight groups of four teams with every team guaranteed three matches. The top two teams qualify for the play-offs. Games will be 15 minutes a side. Running alongside will be a penalty shoot-out competition against one of Sligo Rovers goal-keepers. The cost of entry for this is €10 with each entrant getting five penalties and the top three competitors will go onto to contest the final which will be held at half-time during a Sligo Rovers match with the winner receiving a cash prize of €200.
