We passed upon the stairs,
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasnt there
He said I was his friend
Which came as a surprise
I spoke into his eyes -- I thought you died alone
A long long time ago
The Man Who Sold The World, isn't it? David Bowie, Nirvana etc.. etc..
Did you just need to know MysticMon, or is this a game?
:o Don't mind me, 'course it's a game! :D
Simple one then. No googling!
Spitting in a wishing well,
Blown to hell - Crash!
I'm the last splash

The Breeders - Cannonball
"Who's the man who hired all the criminals?
The white house shadows who hide behind closed doors
They bend the facts to fit with their new story
Of why we had to send our men to war"

"Never ever wanted to be with you
All you ever gave me was the boredom I suffocate in
Adrift in cheap dreams don't stop the rain
Numbed out in p_iss towns just wanna dig their graves"

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well..
You've gotta let me go

Dedicated to all those who suffered at the hands of the 'church' in collusion with the State, corrupt politicians and faceless shameful public servants:
Ring them bells for the blind and the deaf,
Ring them bells for all of us who are left,
Ring them bells for the chosen few
Who will judge the many when the game is through.
Ring them bells, for the time that flies,
For the child that cries
When innocence dies.

He may of covered it (I'm not sure) but not the artist who wrote it and originally performed it.

That was the first song I heard of Dylan where his voice went to **** (mid-90s live performance). Lyrics are class though.
Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Hats Off To Larry
He broke your heart
Just like you broke mine
When you said we must part
He told you lies, Now it's your turn to cry cry cry
Now that Larrys said goodbye to you

nope not the one i was looking for :D
I think we're going to have to introduce some rules here young lady. :p
If someone gets the original (or a more definitive version!) of the song you gotta let them have it.
Anyway, Optimist's is another cracking tune, Medicine Bow by the Waterboys.
Short one now, from a similar era though. My era! :o
"I could lose myself in this honesty"

Haha a loose cannon, eh? :D
No, not Mick Jones.
It is a cryptic enough line.
If it's any help, the line is the chorus of the song. And for years I thought it was 'odyssey' not 'honesty'!

Another clue?? :) Please!!
Don't know if more lyrics would help, it's the kind of song that people only remember the one line (and get that wrong!).
So, other clues... it's way before your time (I think). :)
And the initials of song and band are all 'C's.
Go on, that's surely enough! :D

How's about this little gem?
Years ago I was an angry young man
I'd pretend that I was a billboard
Standing tall by the side of the road
I fell in love with a beautiful highway

When you were here before,
couldn't look you in the eye.
You're just like an angel,
your skin makes me cry.
You float like a feather,
in a beautiful world
Creep - Radiohead.
try this
Sometimes I wake up in the morning
The ginger lady by my bed
Covered in a cloak of silence
I hear you talking in my head
I'm not singing for the future
I'm not dreaming of the past
I'm not talking of the fist time
I never think about the last

The classic Rainy Night In Soho
"A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a cadilac.
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer threw up at the sight of that."
Haha, don't know the song, but I bet I can name the band! ;) :D
You probably can, if you've been paying attention ;)
See if you're so clever with this (different band)
"So they met on Tuesday at the Town Hall steps
To get an 8 by 10 photo and a wedding date set
We might as well do it next week
Cos we've met everybody that we're ever gonna meet"
No offence meant! I still haven't checked out any Trash Can Sinatras actually, still on the to-do list.
No idea of the other lyrics either, but Optimist's is Five Years by David Bowie / Ziggy Stardust. So I'll use that to give me the imprimatur to go:
"You made a believer out of me"
And it's not Primal Scream as the next word is 'babe'. :)
(damn, had a brilliant obscure one there, but am not 100% sure of the lyrics as I haven't heard the song in about 15 years! :D)

There was another lyric to name in the middle of all that though, so that and TonyD's are still live.

So let us never let our friendship
Treat us like fools
Lets us never ever wonder
What our friendship could do
'Cause my songs don't know that I exist
And although I give them life it is
A friendship that will never grow
My songs are friends I'll never know
Any takers?

Funny thought his name was Pete? Someone has been reading too many tabloid newspapers ;) Whatever you want to call him he's still one of the best songwriters of his generation.
Now back on topic..
You said my clothes were sexy, you tore away my shirt.
You rubbed an ice-cube on my chest snapped me 'til it hurt.
