What, pary tell, is the club doing to promote the game? I'm off this week so I took a trip into the Docks yesterday and today, big crowds, perfect spot to promote the game, hand out flyers, have Terry the Tiger prowl up and down the place. But not a sausage, not a bloody thing by the club. Is there even 1 brain between the lot of them?

If you were off all week you could have contacted the club to see if they wanted a hand with any of their promational efforts?

On Thursday 28th between 1 and 3 pm the GUST Management Committee propose to distribute flyers promoting the Derry City game. Terry the Tiger will be present. We'd like to go down and around the Shop Street / Ocean Race area.
If you can attend please do and wear your Galway jersey with pride.
Please meet in Eyre Square for 1 pm.
If the weather is promised bad I will post here.
Thanks a million.
As you are off all week I'm sure you will be Volunteering for this. The rest of us will be spending our lunch hour down there doing a bit.
Or maybe you could help out with putting up these

"There will be ten road signs up for the Derry City match"
Or this

POLITICAL FOOTBALL set for Terryland Pitch Battle
Or this, so we can raise more funds to further promote our next games
Footy Table Quiz
http://www.galwayunitedfc.ie/events/table-quiz.html
Galway United Supporters Trust will be holding a football table quiz on Thursday night, 28th May, in Fibber Magees, Eyre Square, after the Premier Division match against Derry City. All questions will be about football, from the Premiership to the Champions League, and from the League of Ireland to the World Cup. Entry fee is €40 per table of four.
But it's a lot easier to sit back and moan about everything and knock the efforts of everybody else.

I wonder sometimes why we bother. There is only one way to get things moving is by rolling up your sleeves and doing some work. The club is on its knees people are trying to get things moving and the amount of work done by a few dedicated people this week has been brilliant. What have you done to help bar knocking on here.

Alot more than what you are doing. All volunteers are making a special effort to try and promote the Derry game as much as possible.

And you and the rest of you sanctimonious shower know what I do for the club, yeah?? The club bleats on about a lack of support, and has missed 2 days of promotion at the biggest sporting event Ireland will see this year. How do the points I raised constitute moaning, yet other people raise similar points and it is all 'yeah, what he said'?? At the end of the day, I go and support the club, I give my time to do that, why should I spend my week off doing Nick's job or the CPO's job or the board's job? The first 2 are employees of the club and I think they could do a lot more, but sure I'll probably be hammered for saying that as well.
And Demoshield, and GUFCT, how do you know what I have and haven't volunteered for? Who is to say I haven't offered to do any or all of that wonderful list you presented? I take it you know who I am and know what I do and don't do for the club, yes?

Have no idea who you are & care less. The majority of your posts here are to to have a go at the club over something or other. Who exactly do you think "the club " is. AFAIK, & I am open to correction on this, the club employ one office person on a part time basis. The cpo is mainly financed by the FAI & has to spend most of his time in the schools with the Dairy Council supporting sport & healthy eating, as per FAI directive. The CEO spends all week trying to keep the club afloat, and getting cash to make sure everybody that has to be paid, is paid at the end of the week, often at greart personal expense to himself. If you think he is earning money from the club, think again. The board gain nothing for GUFC & again put their own personal money in to keep the show on the road. There is no money available to promote matches. The supporters have recently set up a management committee to raise funds, organise match promotion & help out in any way they can. Maybe you can join this committee & show us all how it should be done. If I was off all week I would have been down giving out flyers all week, as would many others I know, trying to promote "our club"
If you had volunteered for such activities I'm sure you wouldn't be on here blaming "the club" for doing nothing yet again

If you are off all week, Woodquay Boy, we could certainly do with a hand, specially if you have a car. There are three road signs to go up at lunchtime today, send me a pm, or give Ronan a call at (087) 6972823, if you can help him out.
We will also be distributing flyers in city centre pubs this evening (during Champions League final) and also in the city centre at lunchtime tomorrow.

I never stopped working for the club though there is a slight difference.Your typical of a lot of what is wrong with Galway people great at telling other people how to run things but run a mile if your asked to help.

Very mature. The club will really go places with people like you. We all have other commitments. Any body i know who help out, don't do it for praise from the likes of you or anybody else, we all do it to try ensure that the club will survive & that it will bring as much enjoyment & heartache to our children & future generations,as it has to us. If there were as many people prepared to help out as there are ready to knock the club at every opportunity, we would be top of the league.

I know who gufct is, but I don't know any of the other posters. What Demoshield has posted here about the day to day "existence" of our club is the simple unvarnished truth.
How the board and Nick Leeson are keeping Premier National League soccer alive is this town is nothing short of miraculous. Some of them are convinced that it is now time for them to leave the stage to so called up and coming and politically well connected clubs such as Salthill Devon and Mervue United. Congratulations to those two clubs on their great success in recent years, but I have been going up to support Galway Rovers / United since August 1976 and will miss that if they go.
Like it or not sports fans want to be associated with winners. That's why the Man U & Munster brands can generate endless amounts of cash flow. It is the lack of cash flow that could well see the end of Galway United. But for the generosity of Nick Leeson, his co-directors and some very decent business people in the city and county, the club would be long dead. The so-called Galwegian band of "constructive" critics turned me off this site a long time ago even if I'm used to hearing their endless whining on the rare occasions I help out up in Terryland.

Could you point out to me where I said something that was un true?
I merely pointed out that you were wrong to say the club were not doing anything to prtomote this game & invited you to join in helping these promotions, if as you stated you were off all week. You were also the one who resorted to infantile name calling such as "sanctimonious shower" and "Is there even 1 brain between the lot of them".

No point in doing it Monday & Tuesday because the majority of the crowd were in for the night and not staying around all week. There was a conscious decision to do it tomorrow because any tourists that were in Town would be looking for something to do that night.Im sure you have been out helping Ronan and the other Volunteers putting up signs today

A few weeks ago what Woodquay boy said would have been greeted with applause by many. The simple fact is that his timing has been a little wrong because since the last fans forum there has been another swell of volunteer support. People who have previously been prone to questioning the board (as WB has done) now take such comments as being somehow personal. Bottom line is that whether you pay your entry fee to a game or work all week in a volunteer capacity you are still supporting the club. No one has any right to question what another volunteer is doing or not doing but I believe we all have a right to question what the board are doing or not doing.
Now cut the swipin and let's get down to the buisness of doing what we can to support the club.

IF you are referring to me
1. Nowhere did I question what any other person does or doesn't do for GUFC. I do what I can, it's not alot but it may help to keep the club afloat a little longer. I don't want or expect praise or thanks from anybody. I don't think I am any more or less of a supporter than anyone else.
2. Somebody asked
What, pary tell, is the club doing to promote the game?
I gave them a list of what the club were doing
3. THis person stated
I'm off this week
So I suggested if they had time on their hands they may like to volunteer to help out with the various events.
This person chose to respond by making derogatory, sarcastic comments about the board, myself & others
4. I question the board evert time I think I have a valid query. If anybody wishes to question them why don't they go to any of the numerous Q&A sessions arranged with Nick Leeson and ask him there. Some it seems prefer to continually snipe away at everything on internet forums.
It amuses me to hear people say "the club don't do this" or " the club should do that" WHO exactly do these people think "the club" is?? I would love to hear their response. As I stated earlier, and I am open to correction on this,I believe the club at present is a one man band with a part-time secretary. If that doesn't change rapidly, we may very well see the season out, in the highest position we have finished in years, but it could very well be our last in LOI. It can't carry on as it is at present.
Last Comment on the subject. Good Luck to ye

I wasn't referring to you or anyone else.
I applaud the work Nick does but the work of most of the rest of the board is questionable in my opinion.
Who or what is the club? Great question. As I've said before we have a team but a club?
The rest of the Board have covered our debts for the last 4 years so I think that answers that question. The biggest problem is the total void between Nick and the volunteers/supporters in the club. There is no proper link or accountability and transparency in the running of the club.

Not the impression at the last forum but I'm certainly not going to quote or paraphrase Nick on a public forum
