Going to Tokyo next month, but I only have 2 nights in the place.

Any recommendations of how to pack as much in as possible?
Where's best to stay and to go out at night?

Depends what you are into, but for some, the best, and only place to go out, is Roppongi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roppongi). For a quieter time in comparison, try Shinjuku (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinjuku).

Are you there on business, and if so what part of Tokyo? It is unbelieveably massive. For an experience try a Capsule hotel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsule_hotel). Or, if the opportunities, how about a place like this? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_hotel) For a decent but no-frills place, look at something like the Toyoko Inn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyoko_Inn), with rooms at about 40-60 euros a night. There are loads of them. You're better off with a hotel near wherever you will be working, but if you want to stay near where you're going out, the Yamanote line (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamanote_Line) will get you pretty much wherever you need to be.

Shinjuku has the Metropolitan buildings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Metropolitan_Government_Building) that have an observatory which is amazing at night. Can't remember if you have to pay or not. Interested in baseball? Check out the Yomiuri Giants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yomiuri_Giants) at home, or head to the Imperial Palace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_imperial_palace), although you don't really get near it.

This website (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2164.html) should have some decent info for you on all aspects of travel, including good hotels. Their forum is pretty helpful also.

I'm not there on business, but on the way back from New Zealand (a little out the way, I know), so I've got all the time there to myself.

Thought about a Capsule hotel just for the experience, but it looks a bit crap tbh, so think I'll just go for a normal place.

It seems decent enough, though I've been to most of those places and I reckon part of your reaction will be "where is the part I am supposed to find interesting?"

I never went to Tsukiji market, but heard good things about it.

By the way, when I said "Shinjuku" earlier on, I meant "Shibuya".

Meiji Shrine is pretty good, or you might head to Yasukuni Shrine, which is undoubtedly Japan's most controversial, as it houses the spirits of 14 Class A war criminals whom it celebrates as victims of western agression. It is a big deal every year to see if the PM will visit or not.

Odaiba I'd miss out on, I've been there and didn't think much of it, as all the supposedly amazing architecture was modern, whereas I'm interested in old stuff.

If you're into the "been there done that" stuff, then sushi is a must, and try and fit in some fugu, basashi (raw horse) and raw whale also.

I'd say that wherever you go, the sheer size of the place, the amount of people, and the shortness of the skirts will amaze you.
