Without appearing to be too sensitive how Damian Richardson (Des Cahill 6.30 this evening) eliminated ourselves and Drogheda to the two final positions in the league at the end of the season I do not know. He went through all the teams that were there outside of the top three, Bohs, Cork and Derry but Sligo or Drogheda were not mentioned except at the very end something like Sligo and Drogheda would have to step up.
Now can you think of a better incentive than to stuff the smug Damian Richardson, he has only patronised Sligo on MNS in the past. Hope Cookie and the players were listening which I doubt they were as Cahill pays scant regard to the League of Ireland since he became a rugby fan a few months ago. God I feel better after that but this self promoting of soccer know alls p....s me off and especially unemployed managers. So please Rovers put that smile back on my face by making the Cork man eat his words.

Damian Richardson isn't from Cork. He's Shamrock Rovers through and through.

AFAIK Cahill's a big Bray fan and goes to all their games he can. It does get frustrating alright when radio sports shows ignore the LoI, but unfortunately most of the listeners to these hows are rugby,PL etc. fans..

Give a crap in fairness....the more people put us down the better.....we earned enough plaudits last November and hopefully come the end of the season he'll be eating his words.

To be fair he has mentioned positive things in relation to the BOR on the MNS before so i wouldnt be so one sided and he is entitled to his opinion - so we just have to make him eat his words!!!

Some people are just too sensitive. Rico is a pundit so is paid to express his opinion.

I have seen him on MNS & he never said Sligo would get relegated or come second last.

He's always been positive about us and Cookie and the style of football we play. I like Richardson but I'm sure he'll be proven wrong by the end of the season :)

I dont mind him meself and when it comes to Rovers, over the years hes usually had positive things to say.

Hes definetly more professional that some of the twits ya hear on MNS also.

Back in the day Rico hated coming to Sligo because of the hostile reception :D. More likely to do with being spat on exiting out to the old dressing rooms under the Shed. Also predicted a Derry win in 1994 when he was on the Rte panel. Think he resigned from the Cork job in a takeaway in Claremorris one Saturday night after being defeated by Rovers in the Showgrounds.

Back in mid ninties some manager said that they must lock them up for the week and let them out for the match. Dont know if it was Rico tho.

Ya it was richardson
from what i can remember he said it in an interview with rte after the game in the early 90's (93) (maybe showgies could be the man to fish this one out)
Rovers were trailing cork 2-0 but came back to win 3-2.
The place was going bananas. The old fencing was still in place around the pitch which added to the atmosphere, loads of guys hanging out of the top of it roaring abuse
I think there was a couple of sendings off aswell.
Another thing i vaguely remember was Tommy Gaynor was playing for them,
he had just come back from england and was a great player.

Yeah that could of been the game he resigned afterwards. Cork had Ludsvic (spelling) in goal, the bald headed chap. He is dead now. Winifred was refing and he was his usual pompous self, except this time he was for the Rovers! We were two down as said but pulled one back through Johnny Kenny before half time. Into the second half, ball was played over the top and Eddie was judged to have been halted by the goalie. It looked to have been outside the box but up steps Wallace, sends the keeper off and proudly awards Rovers the penalty. Annand dispatches the peno past Gaynor I think it was. We knew we were on our way then and Mike Small bundles over the winner from a corner.

Covered in muck as usual leaving the Showgrounds and everyone down the town for pints.

You are right it is Wilfred but he had cult status in his own right and was giving the nickname Winifred by some of us! I bet yeah his ghost still haunts the old place. I can still see him flashing the cards in that indigent fashion, like he has never been wrong in his life.

Well at least 18 posts later we have been around the block on this but I still say my point was correct that Richardson excluded Drogs and ourselves as having any position in this years league. I still think he was wrong in our case and I would be surprised if most of you do not agree that he is wrong. We will see but what a great chance to catch his eye tomorrow night by stuffing the Shams. I still have not got over the cup match last year when we had a crap keeper and poor referee.
