Willie Doyle, though, not Robbie. From eleven-a-side - here (http://www.eleven-a-side.com/ucd/story.asp?newsid=9173)

He's a forward who's moving on after not getting past Glen Crowe, Robbie Doyle and Paul Keegan in the Bohs first team. He was capped at Ireland U-19 level last year - same as Neil Gallagher. Apparently Robbie Martin seems to be staying on, though Alan Cawley is "linked" with Shels - this about two weeks after Shels announced his signature!

It's an obscure Simpsons reference.

reading an article in one of yesterdays papers about ucd and the players that they have let go/sold over the past few seasons etc... and it said the 2 martins brothers had gone as well as jennings and cawley

Well you're a barrel of laughs, aren't you!

Which paper was that in?

Haven't heard anything at all about Robbie, but then most contracts seem to end on the first of January, so there should be a good few transfers around now.

Oh. Must be true so...

Doyle sounds very promising alright - Ireland U-19 international, so he has some pedigree. Looking forward to seeing him play!

Presume he is a scholarship student alright - very handy thing to be able to offer alright! Surprised more clubs don't go in for it... Not going to complain of course!

From the Bohs forum - link here (http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=244087&messageid=1073259665)

Probably our best under 21 player, excellent talent, deserved to be given a chance, but wasn't,so had to leave for 1st team football. Shouldn't have been let go.

Sounds very encouraging again!

News section of the website confirms that he's signed on scholarship.

Another post since on that forum - he's "more of a goalscorer that Robbie".

Shame there's still over ten weeks 'til we get to see him in action!

:( :D :D

Saw him play for Bohs Under-21's a few times last season, and along with Lester and Ward, really stood out above the rest.

Even though Doyler (robbie) is my cousin i would defo disagree with that statement ! if he was seriously as good as him would Bohs have let him go so easily ? he is a great player alright but not up to that standard yet, and he's gonna find it a hell of a lot more diffucult to score in the 1st division while being kicked from one end of the pitch to another ! well, that and the service he will get, not slagging meant there, just that Bohs are a bit better in that department than ucd

But are their reserves better than us? Don't think he's played first team really.

I think the point on Robbie Doyle was that he's more of a provider than an out-and-out striker. Robbie was a class player, but still only scored seven times for us, although he set up a lot more chances.

Incidentally, any perceived go at Robbie Doyle is unintended - any UCD fan will tell you that he's one of our biggest legends of recent years!

Robbie got eleven in all comps, if memory serves.

And he was a class act - would've certainly scored more had Doolo not dropped him for the run-in for reasons which still elude me. Even if Doyler was putting on weight he was still much better than Alan Gallen and he worked harder than Bambi too.

Jayz, we hardly scored eleven in all competitions that season, let alone one player on his own!:D

Just counted up - nine all told; two in the Cup and seven in the league.

He was a great player, but he was never an out-and-out striker, which Willie Doyle appears to be.

Yeah, you're right, he's more of Thierry Henry come to think of it. :D

Doyler putting on weight ! F*ck ! i had to hear what ya's think of me ! lol. We actually call him fat boy as a joke !

Nah, i couldnt give two flutes if anyone slags him off, its part and parcil of the game and were well used to it by now, was just giving my oponion on the post, but seeing as Robbie was only used as a sub for the 1st 3 months of the season he did very well for Bohs to score as many as he did, but you are right, he's not an out and out goal scorer and never will be - he's the striker who'll work his ass off and set up chances, track back and get booked about 20 times a season for tackling (like a striker ! lol)
Cant understand why Doolo dropped your best striker at the time for the run in either ? think he was trying to prove a point, he knew clubs where looking at Robbie and was most likley gonna leave to join a better team.
Willie D will be class in a few years, if he gets the right advice and training and luck !

Rumour was that Doolo wasn't too happy that Robbie was pretty open about leaving which to me smells of sour grapes. Out of those two I know which one will be more fondly remembered in Belfield. Anyway whenever he was dropped/suspended we all got to see his wonderful collection of hats.

Unlike some players who left the club in recent times, most notably those with a habit to stray off their line, he doesn't get much stick from the fans when he comes back to play in Belfield.

He only really started to talk about leaving when Doolo dropped him for some reason and started having little digs at him in the papers etc.......

That reminds me ! i think it was a longford match he was suspened from and he turned up to watch the game with us wearing one of the martin bro's birds hats ! multi-coloured striped thing ! the state of it !

ah, Doyler and his love for shocking hats ! the boy has no shame

On another note, Finn was let go yeah ? any clubs looking to sign him ? when he was fit he was a good player. Good speed and strength. scored a good hat trick againist monaghan ? if i remember ?

Yes, he's gone. I thought Doolo had snapped him up too, but maybe I'm wrong. 'When he was fit' is the important part of that sentance. His wages were a bit high from what I've heard, so it's unlikely Bray would risk him.

Scored a "pure" hat-trick against Drogheda in Belfield - left foot, right foot and header, all in the same half and with no other goals in between. Scored a brilliant free against Shels (on his Belfield Park debut I think) and hit the bar with a sensational volley, but was injured most of the rest of the time.

It was thought he would go to Drogheda, but no news yet. Class player when he's not injured though.

Let's not forget about the matching gloves!

As for Doyler getting stick - there was a few "judas" shouts when he showed up at the Bray League Cup game last year.

There were a few Judas shouts when we beat Bohs this year too - especially after he ploughed into Jennings a couple of minutes after coming on and nearly started a huge scrap! Must have been trying to get himself sent off so we'd be more likely to get the points - nice lad!

By the way Roo69 - what goes on the message board, stays on the message board! No telling tales!

Unless you're Hugh Davey obviously... Hi Hugh! Just signed you for York in CM, but you're not very good and your control score is fairly low, so I might release you again... How's Gav Whelan? Any more news on the Swedish wan?!
