there are a variety of colours, about 7 at this stage just coming down the screen like a waterfall, well no actually they are there continuously, more appear every few days and I have a feeling there eventually the whole screen is going to go....anyone any idea what it is or how to fix it? Is it possible to change the screen.

Does it show up iif you take a screenshot (PrtScn and paste into an image editor like GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/)). If it does, it's your operating system; if it's doesn't it's your hardware.

nope its definitely hardware, good troubleshooting advice though. Another line has since appeared.....
im thinking you may need to get your screen replaced POS - same thing happened with my dell (my fault actually) and they ran all the appropriate tests on it remotely etc etc and then just called it in and replaced the screen. Im no computer geek so thats about as much as i can tell ya.

Well, yes, displays can be replaced, but whether or not it'll be worth your while or not depends on the value of the lappie (and obviously whether it's under warrantly or not). If the lappie's only worth a few hundred quid at this stage, I'd have my doubts it'd be worth repairing.

thanks lads, ya its the girlfriends, and she thinks its something im doing as everytime she takes it from me there is a new line :D so it was good to have some outside advice to prove it wasn't me doing anything. Ya thinking the same, it might not be worth changing the display. How much does that cost though? Dont think its under warranty.

Maybe you need a cloth to wipe it clean after you're done with it.:D
