Greene steps down as Athlone boss
First Division club Athlone Town FC have announced that Jimmy Greene has stepped down as manager at St Mel’s Park after less than two years in charge in order to take up the new role of Youth Development Officer within the midlands club.
Greene was appointed manager of Town in April 2002 following the departure of Liam Buckley to take over at Shamrock Rovers.
The club have largely struggled in the lower regions of the First Division in his two seasons in charge, but he helped bring about a major improvement in form and fortunes over the final three months of last season.
