Current squad would be Doyler for his persistent running and Stephen Reid for his power and talent which has sadly never been fully realised.

All time favourite players not so much based on talent but commitment to the cause and memories from my youth. McAteer for his relentless running as Wing Back in USA 94, Townsend for giving his all and the way he puffed his chest out with pride after banging in his penalty against Romania and Big Mick for kicking Lineker in to the stand after about 10 minutes of the most intense 90 minutes of my life, before turning round to Jack with a wink and a massive grin. Legend.

All Time would be Roy Keane
Of the current players its harder to choose, Doyler, Steven Reid or Andy Reid I think

From the current squad it Richard Dunne for me. his improvement over the last 6 years is a credit to himself ( Also well done to Keegan for sorting him out)

For an all time great its got to be McGrath

All time Kevin Moran, he used to put his head in places most players would not put a boot!! Awesome awesome awesome player.

Current - McGeady. Amount of vile sectarian bigotry he has gotten because he has chosen to play for us the team he always supported has been unreal.

All Time - Aldridge. Fantastic attitude, fantastic player

Agreed, having to listen to a Rangers fan rant on for about 10 minutes about why he hates Aiden McGeady for being a "traitor to his country" (that's a direct quote) and than another diatribe against the Scottish international side (it's sh!te, apparently) finishing with why he follows England instead, I have whole new levels of respect for McGeady, and McCarthy for that matteer

For me it's Robbie and Duffer - for all the 2002 World Cup memories. Hopefully we will get another chance next year.

Kevin Doyle, by a mile.

If I was to select one player from the team who I reckon has most of the qualities that others should aspire towards, then it's Shay Given.
He is an unflinching rock of dedication, professionalism, quality and leadership.

Every one of them are a credit to this country. I've great respect for anyone who pulls on the green jersey. If I was pushed though Given, Duff and Doyle would currently be my favourites.

Given. For his attitude, his obvious joy in representing his country and because I sang a song with him standing on a table in Buck Mulligans in Seoul as we drowned our sorrows after the Spain defeat! He'd managed to blag a Donegal shirt from someone by that stage and all, legend!

Kev Kilbane, for all the years of under-appreciated dedication.

Past might be Kevin Moran, though it's hard to discount McGrath. I'm too young to remember Brady playing, though he sounds like someone I'd have adored watching.

Present would be Duff.

McGrath all time for me. I'm assuming like me you were born in 1983 (from your user name), making you the perfect age of 10/11 that night in the giants stadium.

Loved the guy before Italy, but he became my hero that night. I still support Aston Villa because of him, and when I get a Villa shirt it still gets 'McGrath 5' on the back of it.

Yeah. I was probably a bigger Packie Bonner fan at the time (the shootout vs Romania in 1990 remains one of my strongest memories from back then), but anyone our age is either a McGrath fan or didn't like football.

All time for me is Packie Bonner, thought he was a class keeper in his day also Roy Keane, one of my all time fav's.

At the moment I cant decide who is my fav but Given, Robbie Keane, Kilban and Dunne all stand out as top class for me.

Looks like it's a majority for 1 of these 6:

Given, Dunne, Robbie Keane, Doyle, Kilbane and Duff just about

So, run a POLL please ! for www.foot.ie most appreciated Ireland player.

All time respect to Paul McGrath.

Current, Robbie Keane... is there any striker record he wont have for us by the time he's done?

All time, ah would have been Roy Keane by a country mile was it not for Saipan. But since that happened, i'd agree with McGrath.

Definitely has to be Given for me. Probably the only truly world-class player in the squad.

Kilbane got my vote for his commitment to the cause and his love for the jersey above skill and talent. He is a true rarity for a footballer in todays era. The guy is a legend in my eyes.

Robbie Keane comes second and Shay Given and Richard Dunne are immense.

Just always liked him as a player for us. I really wish he was in the team, but I'll stand by Trapattoni. I'm sure with all of his medals he knows a tad bit more than me about football.

I went with Doyle. But Dunne is just a huge tank, fun to watch him defend.

Stephen Hunt has the great work ethic and attitude, just wish he was more consistent.
