Hello everyone,
Just wondering, now that we've reached the midway point in the season whats your thoughts on the teams so far?
Ballyglass have been unbelievably consistant and look destined for the title.....but, if Urlaur & Rovers can stop dropping points at the wrong times and both beat Ballyglass in their respective head to heads it might just get interesting!! It has to be between these 3 for the title.
I say that because for Inver to challenge for the title Ballyglass would have to lose 4 of their last 9 games and Inver have an absolutely magnificent second half to the season. I just dont see it happening.
However Inver and the other mid-table teams can definitely sneak a promotion spot if they can step it up a gear. The next three games are crucial for these teams i think.
With Regard to relegation i think Ballyheane B are in serious trouble unless they can add goals to the team. Not bad in general play but not cutting it up front. Same for Glenhest but not as precarious. Decent team if they can just get a run of good results - theres not a whole lot between all the teams in the league, never mind at the foot of the table!!!
What say you???

Fair play to Killala getting a draw back in Achill. Wasnt at the match but i heard the conditions were bad and the game could have gone either way. I will be honest, I was absolutely shocked when i heard the result!! I knew Killala travelled with the bare bones and were missing 7 regulars and U18 keeper started between the sticks so to bring a point home was excellent. Especially the position Killala are in! Precious point towards survival.
Did Ballyglass a favour but they didnt do themselves one.
Achill 1-1 Killala
Ballyglass 2-3 Inver

Achill Rovers 1 v 1 Killala
Ballyglass 2 v 3 Inver Utd.
Clew Bay Utd. 3 v 0 Glenhest Rovers
Mulranny Utd. 2 v 2 Ballyheane ‘B’
Urlaur Utd. 3 v 0 Kiltimagh/Knock Utd.
Clew Bay right up there now only 1 point behind Achill and 2 behind Ballyglass.
Looks like Ballyglass might struggle to go up now, they have only won one of there last six games and seem to be conceding quite a few goals.

Ballyglass 2-3 Inver
We went one nil up after about 10mins and really should have pushed on from there. Had one or two half chances but nothing clear cut. Conditions were bad but no excuses for us conceding a VERY sloppy goal from a corner - against the run of what was very broken play- with 5mins to go.
All the more gutted to hear that Inver turned Ballyglass over who must seriously be disgusted at themselves seeing as they had the league sown up only a few weeks ago
that said, we're doing our best to throw it away too......

Glenhest 1 - 4 Charlestown aet
Charlestown not at full strength by any means and still turned the home side over. Tough game by all accounts with a few tempers raised along with some blood pressure and some guys flying off the handle. Charlestown face much tougher opposition in the next round against Ballina Town :). Glenhest seem destined to fall 2 divisions in 2 years unless they can pull something outa the bag.

Sorry my bad...will agree tho, they are more interested in kicking and fighting with the opposition than playing football. Even a youth player (16 or 17) tried gettin into a row (actually tried elbowing a player) but ended up sitting on his backside almost in tears. Never thought they had reduced themselves to those tactics but if thats their ploy then its no wonder they are struggling

Can anyone tell me how Achill have been doing in the league this year? I've had a soft spot for the team ever since I saw them lift the Mayo league about ten years ago, while I was down there.

Achill finished in third spot in Division 1 this year (Super League and Premier Division above Div 1). They have had a difficult few years since they won the title. Would have lost a number of players due to emigration (to east coast). You can see the league tables on http://inform.fai.ie/League/Clubs/portals/MAFL/welcomeinnhoteldivision1leaguetable.aspx
