Is 8-0 a league record? I've tried to find a bigger scoreline but cant. Is this a league record?

I don't know if anyone's beaten it, but I think Limerick beat UCD 8-0 in the early 80s.

EDIT: Actually, it was 7-0.

Galway have won 8-0 v Monaghan, and lost 9-1 to Derry. http://foot.ie/showthread.php?t=113933

Was just going to post that about Galway and Monaghan, it was one that sprang to mind from recent years.

I dont think its a record, maybe you are thinking for an away win but I still dont think so, other clubs will have their records, we came close to this beating Sligo 8-1 away in the Premier Div in 1987.

But I'm sure 8-0 away has been beaten

I wish to god Bray were caled the Unknowns instead of Wanderers. It's the best name for a football club ever.

Ramblers beat Kilkenny 7-0 in 2007 in Kilkenny and there was talk that it was a record away win so if it's anything it's a record AWAY WIN and a few seasons before that demolished Monaghan 8-1 and so i'd say it's not a record as such as it's a very common score that pops up at least once a year.

I think we beat Shels 9-0 in the early 80s

It's not even the biggest away win, Shels won 9-0 at Pioneers in 1922 and Cork United won 9-0 at Brideville in 1944. A good number of clubs have won 8-0 away.
Dundalk won 8-1 at Sligo in the late 80s.

Reiteoir's list above is the definitive list of double digit results in the league.

Derry City beat Galway United 9-1 in the Brandywell circa 1989. It was the sixth game of the season and the Galway United goal was the first goal that Derry had conceeded that season. Paul McGee was player/manager for Galway United but was sacked after Derry won 6 - 0 in Terryland a few months later.

Reiteoir, where did you get this? Is there any "fastest ever league goal" info in the same place?

That is what I'm thinking too. I've seen "slower" goals since mentioned as being possible record holders though.

How quick was the goal you're thinking of?

Was asked by a former GUFC player after Friday's game if the Fingal win was a record. Reminded him of the 9-1 loss in the Brandywell, to which he replied "Oh yeah, sure I was playing in that game."

I believe it was announced at the time as being 7 or 8 seconds, but cannot be sure on that.
