To all premier club supporters who dont watch div one but think themselves qualified to comment on it - trust me on this, most of what we see on MNS from the premier sides is no different to what you will see in highlights of first div matches.

Everyone seems to have arrived at the conclusion that more people will get into league of Ireland footie if they see the best of it on tv - fine in theory.
But why would anyone from Limerick, Wateford, Wexford, etc tune in to watch Bohs, Cork, Derry and so on (unless they are already into LOI) - they wont is the correct answer. They just might however, take notice if they see their local team, for example banging in 5 goals v their historical rivals as part of a 3 minute 1st div highlight package.

I think Sam was referring above to the quality of recording rather than football.

To the average punter the difference in standard between the divisions is minimal, and certainly that between the bottom of the premier and a top D1 game is non existent to a large extent.

There is no reason whatsoever why MNS couldn't cover one D1 game per week and generally give the division a bit more time and respect.

I thought you only scored 4 goals against Mervue... Oh wait you must be on about the Kildare - Fingal rivalry, they scored 8 in that one! :p

Seriously though one of the issues is that the pundits wouldn't have a clue. It's bad enough that they don't know the players in all the Premier Division teams but can you imagine Roddy trying to discuss Division 1. He wouldn't be able to say he brought any of the players to the league! I do think they should make more of an effort with the results and fixtures - I'm not being funny but if a blind person had the TV on they genuinely wouldn't have a clue what's going on.
As to how many blind people watch TV, in particular MNS, that's a whole new thread... :ball:

It's the blind barstoolers I hate. They just don't see things my way :o

The trick is to move the barstool when they go to the toilet. That'll show them.

I don't consider myself qualified to comment directly on 1st division football. I do consider myself qualified to read league tables and draw basic conclusions from them. If there is a secret order dedicated to eschewing promotion and staying in the lower division while playing better football I think we should all know about it.

I was making reference to Limerick v Waterford toward the end of last season :)

:D

Thats another thing I think MNS have got wrong, the ratio of talk to football is far too much in favour of the talk.

As I said, highlights of many first div would be as good as in the premier. There would be enough good stuff to find 3 minutes of quality footie between the six matches every weekend.

I said nothing about keeping up the standard for a whole season or more ;)

There's not enough time on the show to show a decent amount of coverage from PD games. If anything is going to be squeezed in it should be more highlights from the games that are currently shown.

And as many people have said it's just not feasible. To keep the footage to the quality the show seems to want for highlights, mns would need 6 extra teams every week to do what you ask, on a budget of 40% less than last year....

On the idea of just one Div 1 game a week, again its a case of sending extra people out and then you could well have picked the worst game of the lot.

Granted sending an extra team out means the same amount as last season but thats ignoring the budget cuts. Id imagine having one less game helps them with the cost cutting.

Don't watch it, really looked forward to the show at the start. Prem, 1st Div, didn't care who was on as long as it gave the league exposure.I just think the show is poor. Pity we don't get the adverts or the coverage that Celebrity Banisteor gets. National broadcaster me asre.:ball: !!!!!!

Last year after watching some of Celebrity Banisteor (only watched it coz Baz was in it :o ) I was thinking there should be a Celebrity Gaffer show.

Get some of the junior clubs in the country coached by some Celebs.

Totally off topic, sorry!

Agree with you, i think there are other things going on here though. I am still trying to work out why the brilliant Friday night (Radio ) show was pulled, no doubt it is to do with listenership will be the answer, as I have said National Broadcaster me asre!!!!

Any footage I've seen from 1st division teams is not worthy for national tv. Our own is the best quality and it's still not up to that standard.
How so LR?

I know I might be a bit biased but, comparing my video with that of RTE's for the cup game last year against Dundalk (which I have here), they're about the same. I'd say mine is better, but, as I said, I'm a bits biased.

Maybe you're talking in terms of picture quality. If so, well, of course. There's a difference between my year and a half old, €600 camera and their €45,000 cameras. Also, it's gets compressed to **** when I put it on the web.

If you're talking in terms of camera work, I'd completely disagree with you. I'd say that mine, in the case of the Dundalk match is better.

I would like to see a 1st Division round-up at the end of the show, like the way they do League 1 and 2 on ITV's 'The Championship.'

However, we just have to face the facts. This means that RTE have to send 6 more camera crews around the country each weekend. More staff might have to be hired, or else existing ones might have to be paid overtime + expenses to do it. Even if the FAI co-operated fully to try and make this possible by, for example, having all PD games on Friday and all FD games on Saturday, therefore allowing the same crews to do 2 games per weekend, I still doubt it'd be a runner.

Of coure not Jaf. Not criticising you in the slightest bit. What you do with the resources you have is fantastic. However, as you said RTE have better cameras. It's a simple fact. It wasn't meant as a dig. Sorry you took it that way.

not as off topic as you might think MM - cracking idea. Why not get the First Div clubs to be run by celebrities instead of managers. Do an hour long show on the build up and equal mix of glamour and tension associated with the games. Its time to put a bit of a twist on the whole First Div saga...

Monaghan Maulers managed by Barry McGuigan
UCD Scholars managed by Joe Duffy
Shelbourne Villains managed by Bertie Ahern
Longford Lionesses managed by Albert Reynolds (Shels Longford - oooh spicy!)
Mervue Meerkats managed by Traci Bingham (hey why not? id go see em)
Luscious Limerick managed by Francie Barrett

and so on...

Time is now RTE - if you dont do it, then TV3 will.

The name's Shelbourne and Bertie Ahern will only appear in print together over my dead body. I'd do a maxi if anyone even attempted that. I'd rather that fat ***** Derek Davis tbh.

I'm eyeing up a new High Def camera once I start earning an income. Over kill, probably, but I wants any way.

I've been working on getting the RTE one off DVD I have it on, but it's being awkward. It should be done at some stage over the next few days.

Absolutely to do with listenership but they didn't take the fact that when the moved to LW only, they stopped about 75% of their regulars from getting the programme into account!

It was also very interesting recently to hear the station split into two frequencies so that they could cover the Six Nations and the National Hurling League at the same time! Bet the GAA put the pressure on there so why can't the FAI do likewise!!!!
