A woman is just after giving birth to a child. The doctor who delivered the baby says he has good news and bad news. The bad news is it's ginger. The good news is it's dead!
I actually don't see how thats funny.

Not even remotely funny.

You give infractions for opinions that don't agree with your own, yet you allow a sick joke to remain open to viewing on a subject that has affected more people than you know. Now I have the measure of your morals

You think it's sick. I don't. Not funny perhaps, but dead baby jokes are hardly new in the history of jokes. 40,000 result on Google alone for the exact phrase (http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22dead+baby+jokes%22&btnG=Search). If you have a problem with the post, report it. If enough complaints are received, a moderator of OT will deal with it. Now mind your business and stop personalising the infractions you received. It's immature, which negates your right to complain about someone else's behaviour.
Any further complaints outside the provided procedures will be dealt with in the usual way.

Ah jesus lads, will ye calm down it's a bloody joke. It's not as if I related to a particular person. There's rakes of ginger jokes and there's rakes of dead baby jokes around for flip sake.Look through the thread and there's much worse(e.g maddy mccann jokes iirc). Of all the people I've heard that joke being told to, I've never heard someone complain:rolleyes:.

I tried to find some way of reporting it but I couldn't. Probably my fault, I'm sure it is there in an obvious place. I felt I had to comment on a topic I felt was distasteful to say the least

Will you get off the stage, the lot of you. If that's the worst joke you've ever heard (or told) then you've lived very sheltered lives. Granted, it's not particularly funny, but nor is it remotely offensive to anyone with skin thicker than cling-film.

Sheridan hits the nail on the head I see
How some of you exist in this world with those levels of moral outrage is beyond me.

Some people go out of their way to be offended.
But like I said earlier, 10 gets you 20 most of them are gingers. No sense of humour see. :)

I didnt find it at all funny. Maybe we should do a poll? I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist about it, but I just don't get what's funny about dead babies.

Jebus, let me try and explain where I am coming from, while trying to be sensitive about it.
There has to be some viewers of this forum who were once waiting anxiously in the maternity ward, when a doctor might have come out and said 'Mr X, I'm afraid I have some bad news........'
Do you get me now?

Every joke has to have a victim. That's the nature of a joke. I'm pretty sure you could use that logic about 95% of the jokes on the thread. Your post just defines political correctness, IMO.

I understand full well that some forummers might have been through this situation and I would still say that they are over-reacting by getting worked up over a joke posted on the internet by some guy that they'll never meet
Example: My family have been pretty much decimated by cancer throughout the last 10-15 years but I don't take offence at all the Jade Goody jokes I've seen on other forums (that are a LOT harsher than this place when it comes to this sort of thing) because if I did I'd have to lock myself in a room with no means of communication to the outside world. It's a harsh world and some people (I'd argue most people on forums) have a very twisted sense of humour.
As I said, I personally didn't find the joke funny, not because it was tasteless more that it didn't make me laugh, but there's no need for censorship in a jokes thread in my opinion. If he had started up a seperate thread to laugh at dead babies I'd back you to the hilt on this, but in a jokes thread I won't. I'm sure I could run through that entire thread and pick out at least 2 jokes from every page that would cause offence to someone. Should they all go too?

23/03/2009, 1:04 PM
Fair enough Jebus, but perhaps not everyone can handle these things as well as you. I only wanted to explain why I thought the joke was tasteless.

23/03/2009, 1:06 PM
That's the thing, I wouldn't dream of censorship being put on a jokes forum. I know some people think complaining about dead baby jokes is a bit PC, if I'm being PC, so be it. I'd draw the line at racist jokes though, for instance.

Everyone got it oldyouth, and that's very sad, but every minority has a joke at their expense - I'm blond, for example - so where do we stop exactly? There's a line to be drawn certainly, but this isn't it. And I, ultimately, draw the line, whether you like it or not. Attacking me because you don't agree with it shows the lack of maturity and respect you were in effect accusing the OP of.
If you're worried about the possibility of something that you might think offensive cropping up on the jokes thread, don't read it. Same goes for the likes of Jock MIB, who in my opinion is far too sensitive to be reading a thread like this.
Why not do something constructive and start a "clean jokes" thread?

Anybody who does this better bear in mind all the chickens out there whose partners were tragically killed crossing the road.

That reminds me of one
A crow is about to cross the road when the chicken walks up to him and says
'I wouldn't mate, you'll never hear the end of it'

Adam,
I find bringing my name in to this and calling people retarded is immature and disrespectful... one rule for one another for the rest is what is happening here... i told you in the moderators forum which is a private forum not in the public domain why i took offence to the Maddie McCann jokes. as i'm a McCann from Glasgow and i am distant relative. Now you did also say something else in the private forum so i will answer the question now Take me off moderation cause i can't be bothered helping you keep control of this site.

Jock MIB, you've complained several times about several posts that almost everyone else considered relatively lame, and it's not a big secret.
I'll accept your request to step down, as I genuinely don't believe it's right for you. Thanks for the help you gave, it was very much appreciated.

Lads I’m not one for getting easily offended and have posted my fair share of tasteless jokes but I think this one has oven stepped the boundaries of all decency, every year people are effected by this and no more so than in Ireland. It is a terrible thing to happen, having a ginger kid is NOT something to be joked about.

And when you call me a retard as you did in an earlier post where is the maturity in that?I can't find where I called you a retard, but you don't seem to have a problem using the word yourself (http://foot.ie/showpost.php?p=862173&postcount=147)? Have you have an epiphany that changed your mind about it's acceptability?
Not that it matters: I didn't say I was mature, I said you're not mature. It's probably a difficult concept for someone of your limited maturity to understand, so perhaps we should halt the conversation before something overheats.
I'd like to hear Gilberto Eire's thoughts on this new matter
