However, sources suggest that the company is likely to implement its original cost saving measures from 29 March, including plans to make 160 newly-recruited drivers redundant.
Under the restructuring proposals negotiated at the Labour Relations Commission, the new recruits would have saved their jobs, while 80 older drivers would have been allowed to take voluntary redundancy.
I thought the unions & Dublin Bus had this one sorted.
Nope, they only agreed to go to the LRC
I thought the unions & Dublin Bus had this one sorted.
There was a proposal from the LRC, which then has to be voted on by the members. It could simply be the best they could do in the LRC at that time, but any agreement by the union side in negotiations is always subject to membership approval.
If Dublin Bus made an agreement with the Union reps which has now been rejected by the union members then I can't see how the LRC can solve this.

There could be further clarification required of issues, and we don't know what basis the reps took it to the membership. Did they even recommend acceptance, or just put it on the table? It's not usually as black and white as you appear to think.

Bring in the Army to drive the buses!!!
SIPTU members working at Dublin Bus have voted to accept changes in work practices and savings proposed by the company.
The result of a ballot released this evening shows some 56% of SIPTU drivers and other grades have accepted the proposed changes.
The National Bus and Rail Union is still voting on the proposals and a result is accepted tomorrow.
