Empire of the Sun. A poor man's MGMT, their album's over-rated and they come across as such pretentious idiots in their interviews.

agreed Pauro - though i havent seen em in interviews, i think their music is pretty terrible and as you said a bad rip off of MGMT. Dont understand the fuss.

Yeah, it would have been so much better if he had been allowed more freedom to freestyle his character into something faster and more exciting, because Robin Williams understands comedy and what an audience wants far better than any director ever could:cool:

Where did tearjerker come from? Sentimental tosh was the phrase used. You're hardly saying Mrs Doubtfire wasn't that?

my bad - i associate sentimental tosh with tearjerking scenes... maybe it was a leap in logic but Mrs. Doubtfire didnt make me cry. Or laugh actually.

Multiple issues now

Colin Montgomerie and the Ryder Cup - 18 months out from an irrelevant charity event, Monty is refurnishing Celtic Manor - I crap you not - by getting big wooden doors replaced because somebody might bump into somebody else and hurt themselves (see Irish Times today)

Next up - golfers to be wrapped in bubble wrap - utterly utterly utterly self indulgent nonsense - complete drivel and an utter irrelevance

Monty - a class golfer at the mickey mouse european tour level but fell short at major level now utterly obsessed at a rickety event between 1 set of golfers who care (because they cannot win majors - Harrington excepted) and 1 set who completely don't care (because they want to win majors)

We have to stop this nonsensical time wasting navel gazing obsession with triviality

Get behind me Satan and don't ever speak Golf again. Golf is about majors - the end. It is the only thing the real pros care about - Woods, Mickelson, Harrington completely don't care about the Ryder Cup despite what they say.

Golfers who talk for years about the ryder cup (mcginley and these other guys) are opting out of what really matters and want to finish 10th each week in rickety events in jersey and china in order to "...make the team...."

Meanwhile in the real world, proper players are trying to win majors

Golf itself could surely come in under the heading of the thread.

I'm with Mark Twain on this - a good walk ruined.

Eugh you sound like those awful tennis fans that defend Serena Williams for only playing well in the slams. Odd as it may seem a sport can have diverse reasons for people to follow it. Football support and competitions at club and national level differ substantially, ditto Gaelic Games, and indeed tennis (Davis Cup crowds can be immense). The Ryder Cup offers an element to golf that isn't there all that regularly, it is something different that is special in its own right.

I may have co-ordination of that kind, having once nearly decapitated Bald Student, Schumi and Student Mullet with a golf ball as they stood well behind my tee, but I'm of a slightly different opinion. I understand the attraction of golf as a game. However, I've no idea how anyone finds it enjoyable to watch.

I definately find it enjoyable to watch , almost theraputic , it is one of my favourite times of the year watching on the last day of the majors, listening to the docile meanderings of Peter Aliss, as the competition comes to a close.

I love the Open and the coverage on BBC , it is the very enjoyable viewing made much better by the commentary as Peter Aliss trawls through his memories of just about anything on God's earth, all this while potentially a historic moment unfolds. As I say I find it theraputic. I must be getting old.

Now ask me to go to a golf course and watch it live , not a chance in hell. You go to a golf course to play .

Explains why my girlfriend likes it so much. We have the full collection of CSI and CSI New York on DVD as well as the first two series of CSI Miami, I can't sit through more than 1 or 2 episodes but she could watch 5 or 6 in a row.

I am of the half that have spent time to learn this game and have to say it is enjoyable enough , it may even get better if we get a chance to put 1 over on the English at another of their games:)
