Gavin doesn't favour salary cap
Fran Gavin has revealed to setanta.com that he is not in favour of a proposed salary cap for the League of Ireland. The FAI Director for the League of Ireland acknowledges the good work that the majority of the clubs have done in downscaling their budgets and applauds them for their efforts.
However, he thinks that it remains up to the clubs to ensure that they handle their budgets correctly and that they don't spend too much on players' wages. The FAI introduced Uefa's 65 per cent ruling last year to ensure clubs did not overspend. While Drogheda United and Cork City both went into examinership, it wasn't all doom and gloom for the Premier Division teams.
