Only one week to go, how do ye think the team will line up for the first match of the season? Any predictions on a result?

Ryan, Daly, Danaher, Purcell, Molan??, Walshe, Colbert, Lyons, Ryan, Cummins, Tierney.

Something like that would probably be the lineup i'd say and would be strong enough. Maybe one or two places could differ depending on who our manager is and who he would like to play.

Score: UCD 0-1 Limerick.:D

According to the local today and yesterday Dave Mahedy, Paul O Connell and Mick Sheils will be in charge for it.

Switching codes is he? Stick him in holding midfield I say.;)

I'm sure Paul O'Donnell will thank you for the comparison tho...

Team could look more like that so maybe. Taking in to consideration Molan hasn't signed. Don't know what Deady is like, could he possibly be a starter on the left or even Colm Carroll in there somewhere?

Fairplay boroman, with the squad put together and hopefully a good manager it should be a good season for Limerick FC.

I would also like to wish Limerick the best of luck for the new season, i had a great season last season watching them with some great banter above in Jackman and especially in Dublin when Limericks shinning star Colin Scanlon cropped up with a stunner to deny Shels the league and give me my greatest moment in soccer for a long time, i am proud to say i was there. As boroman says hopefully we can push on from where we left off last season, looking forward to the season to start and by the way colin we are on next week at 8.30 if interested and good to see you last night, gave the lads a great boost

From RTE

New signings from Shamrock Rovers Ciaran Kilduff and Chris Mulhall sent new-look UCD top of the First Division with a deserved 2-1 win over Limerick at the UCD Bowl.
After shading the first half, Kilduff put UCD 1-0 up in the 62nd minute when he turned and slotted home unmarked from six yards as Limerick looked for an offside.
Mulhall made it 2-0 15 minutes later when he broke into the box and rifled home off the underside of the bar.

Sub Paul Cummins got a scrappy injury-time consolation for Limerick, but UCD held on to win.

Doesnt sound too promising but considerin we're playing last years eircom premier league team and we dont have a full time manager as of yet, things can only look up. Anyone at the game that had a better point of view than the biased people at rte!!!!!

RTÉ don't do First Division reports any more. That's by me. So I suppose in a way, it is completely biased alright. :)

Poor game overall. Never had any attacking threat the way we were set up from the start, sharpness should return with a bit of game-time but we need a manager quick.
Having said that we were missing Jason, Paddy and Danno and despite this and the disjointed performance UCD really werent much better. They do have some cracking girls on campus but the directions there are DISGRACFUL!!!!

Anything good? Tommy and Calla played well and Cummins first goal. Oh and the UCD 'give foul language the boot' campaign. :)

thought it was a dreadful performance against an average UCD side. not having any pre season friendly showed as UCD passed us off the park. We were so unfit it was embarassing. need a manager fast. We ve missed a real chance here. such a shame the last couple months have been a shambles because the potential was def there as we saw from last year.

How did Ger Barron play in goals for U.C.D?shame ye couldn't get him on board as he is a cracking goalkeeper and a great prospect for the future(he is from limerick after all)

Was very shaky at times - dropped one easy catch straight at him with no-one near him; simply wasn't looking - although he didn't even play A League last year (bar one sub appearance against youz when we were 5-0 or so up). Supposed to be a very promising keeper; hopefully he'll get more confidence after a few games. Our central defence didn't exactly inspire him either, although our regular centre-backs should be back in the next couple of weeks.

Well i played against him last year after he had got back form celtic and was with Geraldines and i was impressed.... young and yet he commanded his 18 yard box that said he did drop one or two he came for but you gotta remember he is still young and he will improve

We're well used to it, in fairness. ;)

He's jumped ahead of last year's reserve keeper in the pecking order, so it seems the club reckon he has potential. Not sure what level you played him at, but presumably LoI would be a step up? Anyways, he'll be grand with a few games under his belt.

Ryan,
Daly, O'Callaghan, Barrett, Deedy,
Walsh, Colbert (Goggin) Wunch, Yellow (Cummins) Ryan (Hayes)
Tierney

unused subs: O'Brien, Collopy

Player ratings:

Ryan - 8. He's turning into an excellent keeper, looked confident and depaendable right form the start. Top drawer save in the first half to keep us in it. No fault for the first goal (on his own v four UCD players).

Daly - 4. He has his good qualities but we saw none of them on Friday.
O'Callaghan - 6. Made an excellent last ditch block early in the 2nd half, hint of better thing to come from him with a bit of fitness.
Barrett - 7. Last person I expected to see, due to his injury. Dependable at the back and did very well up front on his own near the end.
Deedy - 5. I'll reserve judgement for awhile....

Walsh - 9. Superb. he was key player in our best spell (last 20mins of 1st half).
Colbert - 6. Gave it everything but not match fit (he's had flu or something)
Yellow - 7. Dont know why he was sub'd
Wunch - 4. Dont remember him doing anything useful. Needs to get stuck in more.
Ryan - 6. Nothing particularly good or bad to say about him. Dont know why he was subbed though.
Tierney - 8. Did the best he could alone up front, terrible formation. Gave away the ball too easy a couple of times when we broke forward though.

Cummins - 7. Had a cracking shot out of nowhere shortly after we went 2 down. Its great to have a player who's willing to have a go from distance, but has the technique to do it aswell. Right place at the right time for our scrappy goal.
Goggins - 5. Did better than I expected but thats because I dont have high expecations for him :o
Hayes - 5.

In summary, terrible formation. Lack of pre-season was telling. We need a good manager. UCD deserved their win but there is much better to come form us.

Kev is pretty much spot on with his ratings bar Wunch I think.

Wunch had a decent first half and was poor in the second, but I put that down to the amount of ground he had to cover protecting our two centre backs. Calla and Tommy aren't the fastest, to put it politely, so Jamie had to cover a lot of ground in the first half in front of them, and I think this tired him out for the second (first game back and all) and that's when you started seeing mistakes. I'd go with a rating of 5 and a half if halfs are allowed, if not I'd be inclined to round it up to 6, rather than push him down to 5

Played With Tommy for years and watched im last year at centre Back and never saw even the quickest strikers skin him.I would say he is one of the quickest centre backs that u are going to get in LOI. I think Tierney even though he is small is a good target man and holds up the ball well and cummins is a clever player and good finisher.

Collopy is better

I too agree. in fact i think we have the two best young goalkeepers in the league (both division) Ryan is 20 and has 3 years LOI experiance under his belt. Collopy is 18 and from the amount of clubs who contacted him and the club asking about his availability during the off season id say he too has a great future ahead of him. Barron is a fine keeper and went to UCD for their excellent schlorship programme, who would blame him.

Ryan - 7. Did well but I’m not fully convinced by him yet.

Daly - 4. Skinned time after time. Wont do at right back for the season.

O'Callaghan - 5. Made a ridiculous tackle on the half way line where he dived in (schoolboy error), struggled to cover the ground between half way line and box , lost his man and it lead to a UCD goal.

Barrett - 7. Good display at back and up front. His versatility is top notch.

Deedy - 5. First LOI game? Thought he looked tidy and wants to pass at times instead of constantly hoof. Got caught out a few times though…one which lead to UCD goal.

Wunch - 5. Faded second half but had a decent first half protecting the back.

Colbert - 5. Wasn’t his normal self. Dunno did the formation suit him.

Yellow – 6 Chased a lot of shadows but was the best of the midfield. As above re formation.

Walsh - 8. Excellent attacking display.

Ryan - 6. Needs more training. Massive arse.

Tierney - 7. Worked hard but formation killed him.

Subs:

Cummins - 7. Goal on the debut, superb long range effort and was very lively when he came on. Looking forward to seeing what he might do for the season.

Goggins and Hayes - 5. Contributed their bit to a livelier team performance for a finish.
