MONS HOLD BRAY IN PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Monaghan United travelled to Rathnew, County Wicklow last night (Thurs 19th) to take on Premier Division side Bray Wanderers in a pre-season friendly. The game ended all even with neither team scoring but gave the management of both teams a chance to check out their squads.

This was the first real test for Mick Cooke’s new look squad and Mick was happy with how it went. “It was a really competitive game with neither sides giving much away. I was very pleased with the whole team. They gave their all.” Cooke said today. “This was a great exercise for the team and helped me get a clearer picture of our squad for the coming season” he continued.

Apart from Don Tierney (on holidays) and Sean Brennan (injured) Cooke had a full squad to choose from. The starting team was: Brendan Kennedy, Paul Whelan, Brian Gartland, Aidan Lynch, Shane Grimes, Cathal O’Connor, Stephen McCrossan, Alan Byrne, Barry Clancy, Karl Bermingham, David Freeman.

Monaghan United’s next friendly is against St Patrick’s Athletic on Monday night at 7.45pm at the Tolka Rovers’ ground in Dublin and United will further test their squad with games against Dundalk at home on Friday 27th at 8pm and an away match against Drogheda United on Sunday 1st March, time to be confirmed.
