Lads, any of you got any info on this years Connacht Senior Cup? just in case any of you Castlebar lads are wondering why a Ballygawley Celtic lad is wondering about the Senior cup.....I'm asking on behalf of a Carbury fella

who is in this connacht senior cup,last year it was the top 2 teams in galway,mayo,roscommon,sligo and the eircom A league sides of mervue,salthill,galway utd and sligo.does anyone know if it's the same this year,i heard the draw was already made but didn't see it.

1 Ballina Town V Athenry
2 Westport United V Ballinasloe Town
3 Castlebar Celtic V Carbury FC
4 Mervue United V Salthill Devon

Semi Finals on or before the 29th March
1 V 3 , 4 V 2

Would anyone details of earlier finals when Cup was first run back in 80's & 90's.

west united beat straide and foxford of mayo 2-1 in the final of 94.

Just a thought -
Due to the small number of actual senior Connacht clubs, and the remoteness of the Ulster cubs why extend the boundaries (theoryetically) of the province.
With the election of Mervue there are now 3 actual Connacht senior teams. A team Salthill Devon makes 4.
Athlone being on the border makes 5. Longford though Leinster have a historical link as an early winner of the Connaught Junior Cup . With Donegal involvement historically also, could open the door to Finn Harps would give 7. 8 or 9 could be achieved by extending invite to Monaghan & Derry.
Throw into the hat 2 top teams from Roscommon, Galway, Mayo. Sligo & Leitrim. Ulster Senior, Donegal League.
This could give a vibrant competition for 16 clubs. Alternatively dangle a carrot for the Connacht Junior Cup, quarter- finalst qualify for Senior Cup.
It could lead to boost for the region.

The senior clubs like Rovers and Galway would not take it seriously.

Mervue 0-1 Westport

Athenry 1-0 Ballina


Mervue-Westport was a good competitive game that both sides were eager to win. Westport scored early and then soaked up 80 odd minutes of pressure.
