Heard from a reliable source last night that Cork Citys checks are starting to bounce. Any truth in this rumour? They were awarded the A license on the basis they can commit to their financial obligations.

I'm sure the FAI will punish them severely if they don't get this sorted out...

Is this the original rumour or a brand new rumour?

The Cork City Offiical Supporters club [CCOSC] have a fans forum tonight with Paul Doolin and Tom Coughlan, I'd hope the question will be asked at that. Personally, I'd be surprised if the rumour about two players still in dispute turned out to be true. I like to take servings of 'reliable source' with a large amount of salt.

The indo line reads; "Serious concerns remain about the future of Cork City. As of yesterday, two of their players from last year were still in dispute with the club over unpaid monies, which would suggest that the Leesiders' plans to negoiate the season ahead as a full time outfit without difficulty are just a tad optimistic. With the FAI not completely satisfied with events at turner's Cross, watch that space."

They were given 5 days to pay up money owed as the condition to being awarded the Premier licence.
I doubt very much the FAI will do anything at this stage though.

What's important to remember in all this is that Harps are in the first division because they didn't win enough games.

You tried in fairness, and you've shown you're incompetent by hanging onto Hegarty, you just need to get the two working in parallel.

Be careful not to do a Cobh though, as a minnow the punishments will be harder for you.

How much debt did you get yourselves into to achieve it? Half a million, is it?

Anyways, back on topic. Assume these rumours are going to continue until games have started up. In fairness, it would be a shame to just end all this financial madness a stroke; much more fun this way.

Ask Tom Coughlin. Very interesting interview with Delaney on TV3 News. He seems to have serious doubts over some clubs Budgets.

According to the Westmeath Independent, there is/was an embargo on Athlone signing players, because they owed 20k to players from last season.

If Cork are in the same situation - surely there'd be an embargo on them?

Or would there ........... ?

We're not in the same situation, the story about the players dispute is nonsense.
The minor concerns about our licence had nothing to do with player wages.

Acording to the Irish Times this morning:

Though Cork City secured a Premier Division licence, they still have arrangements regarding outstanding payments to players and former manager Alan Mathews to fulfil before the start of the season. ................

“Cork have until February 27th in terms of their financial accounts.

There is not way that should be part of licencing. That is a legal dispute & not simple a case of failing to pay wages. If say City wanted to solve via legal route there is little chance could complete in time.

Dodge
18/02/2009, 9:24 AM
Well the idea behind it is that clubs won't have any "footballing debts" so things like outstanding transfer fees are included as well as wages

Fair enough, but the point being as of now we dont owe Mathews anything because of sacking him. He can go to court to say we unfairly broke his contract, we'l disagree and itl be a judge that decides what is owed to who.
