Very harsh on doherty. He scored some crucial goals for us.

never been capped according to the FAI website, though wiki gives him 2 caps. Is it bad i trust wiki more?

Regardless I could find room for Graham Kavanagh in that position, and for David Connolly in place of the Doc

i wasnt sure if o'cearuill played at centre back or centre midfield on the us tour. also, doherty scored a couple of crucial goals for us, but robbie keane has scored about 18 crucial goals for us and look at the stick he gets on here

O'Cearuill played in defence on the US tour

Are you serious? Kavanagh put in some very solid performances for us, especially in the WC 06 Qualifying campaign. There are many, many worse players to play in CM. Such as:

Liam Miller
Jonathan Douglas
Stephen Gleeson
Joe Gamble
Darren Potter

All worse and contributed much less in a Green shirt.

Why is Babb in there - did you ever see him play? Generally very good for us. OK a few poor games such as the Russian one at the end, & some erratic behaviour off the pitch - but overalll a very positive balance sheet.

Some of you really do enjoy yourselves when you are being miserable sods.
Probably the same people that are gleefully posting on the pessimistic thread.

Try thinking positive it may help you in your personal lives as well.

In fairness to Potter he played very well in the US games and in Aarhus (I think). I can't recall a competitive game he played for us.

Anthony Stokes. He appears to have disappeared of the radar altogether.

Thats a bit harsh on him, only still an U-21, not to mention he looked very good playing against Germany on Teusday night, give him time and he should make his way into the team and prove himself. Whatever happened to Stephen Elliott ? wasn't necessarily a bad player for us, but he hasn't been spotted on the International scene in ages. I realise he was very badly injured about 3 years back, but hes back playing now.

Very harsh to include a fella who got one or two caps.

Criteria should be 'Worst players to get at least ten caps'.

Although we make an exception for Paul Butler :D

Your own personal life might improve if you didn't let things get to you so much. It's only a bit of a laugh as far as I can see.

Bit harsh. I know we've usually had good keepers over the years, but there has to be someone some way bad. What about Henderson, and his rush of blood in San Marino? (Though he made up for it against the Czechs).

I will bear that in mind..... but lets look on the bright side as much as possible.

Thats ridiculous on the lad.

Why does everyone give Butler such stick? He had a torrid 45 minutes but IIRC he played U21s or something 24 hours earlier.

That was Thomas Butler, he played for the U-21s the night before the Swiss beat us 2-1 to end Mick McCarthy's reign. He brought Butler on late in the game.

Yes of course. The winner hands down. Simultaneously the worst ever player to be handed a cap AND the most shameful award of a cap.

I remember when he came on, someone played a decent long ball to him, he showed a really good burst of pace and a decent touch on the chest to control and go through a (massive) gap, meanwhile Shane Long made a great run down the right, a half decent ball and he would have been clear through, Lapira keeps the head down, pelting it forward, full speed...and balloons the ball 60 yards forward straight into the crowd. I think Long just turned around with his hands on his hips and allowed himself a wry smile. I was in hysterics. Nearly fell off the couch laughing. Ireland's very own Ali Dia.
