Eh, sort of.

I got the Hurtigruten from Tromso to Bodo in Norway in August a few years back. Didn't get a cabin, just slept on the seats. It departed at 02h and arrived a full 25 hours later. As we were travelling completely within the Arctic Circle, there was plenty of light for the most part, though obviously by August, Bodo was getting quite dark for up to four or five hours a day.

The stops were interesting enough, and fairly regular. The stop at Loftoten was frustratingly short - I could have had a longer stop there, maybe a day or two. It was fairly tranquil for the most part. It also navigated some major fjords (can't remember off the top of my head), which was very impressive - all hands on deck to watch. Very worthwhile.

I also got a boat from Vladivostok to Toyama in Japan, which is theoretically a cruise, though of the two that runs, one is for tourists, the other largely "legitimate Russian businessmen" travelling to buy "second-hand" cars., so not so cruise based. It was interesting to go up on deck for a spell every now and again, but by and large it was rather dull - just sea as far as the eye could see.

After that, I cannot comment, unless you want to count the ferry from Fishguard and Holyhead to Ireland, some of the island ferries here or the more scenic route from Passage East in Waterford to Ballyhack in Wexford :D

I went on one with my extended family (cousins, grandparents, etc.) in summer of 2000 to Alaska. Was good fun but probably mainly because I was 10 and free to roam around the cruiseship unsupervised with my cousins and eat as much ice cream as I wanted for free. We spent maybe 3-4 days on the ship then ventured in-land to Alaska and northern Canada which were also fun, though again maybe only because I was with my cousins.

Sounds good. Would your cousins be available again if someone else wanted to do it?
