Ah no offence intended from either of us, just don't think theres much the club can do to attract fans to this league in numbers

It's hard to whip up interest when the league itself is the punchline for the majority of people in this country

Good point.. But if you look at other sports, you have 26,000 when Limerick are playing in the G/Grounds you have more when there is a game at Thomond so why why cant we have a bigger crowds at the limerick games. you ask any kid in this county and i can guarantee you.....you would have at last 75% say that they play soccer(football) in some way & their most liked player is Ronaldo or Rooney or even Keane. so why cant it be Hughes, Barrett, or Purcell....

gael353. if that is the attuide of the players why even turn up. "until Limerick are in the Premier ???? " i cant see how some player think that they are Gods gift. Head down/new season/New Name thats what the players should be thinking instead of what pair of nickers will i get into next. I would say if i marked Half of the girls that played last year i would mark them out of it and i play part time soccer and i mean PART TIME.

I don't think you realise what gael was saying was in jest. He wasn't suggesting the players only play to pull girls. The players know whats expected of them and 99% of them give 100%. In every game no matter how good or bad a game they are having they will bust there ass. Sometimes it goes good for them sometimes it doesn't, thats football. You would mark Half the girls that played last year out of it??? are you suggesting the team was crap last year? The team that came together for the second half of the season and finished as the strongest team in the divsion from July onwards?

no doubting its better. its bigger, has a bigger (non seated) stand with better viewing from it. It has clean toilets which dont smell, has lights and wait....even toilet roll. at the moment it has no lights or dressing rooms, its a grayhound stadium after all and the pitch hasnt had a game of football on it in 15/20 years. Its the traditional football stadium of limerick football and was also used for rugby (garryowen) and athletics. It will cease being a grayhound stadium in two years when the grayhound ppl move to a government funded 20 million stadium on the dock road. This will bring the governments investment in grayhound stadiums to over €200 million. ill try and get photos during the week. why do you ask anyway?;)

There's nothing Limerick can do as a club to fill seats - bar promotion. It's a league wide problem really.

One submission though: I think the club should ask Lifestyle / Elverys etc to sell the club's shirts and put them up with the Liverpool, United, and London Scum (be they Blue, Red or White) ones. I was in a sports shop in Cork recently and they had both city strips with the UK jerseys. I think it's important that when kids look at a wall of jerseys they see the local team represented as being equal to the foreign ones.

Has an approach ever been made to these stores? If the club announced that the only place we could buy the new kit was in elverys/lifestyle then that's guaranteed extra footfall for them so why wouldn't they go for it?

All jokes aside because I presume there's more interest in the Man City or Aston Villa second strips (to be fair they're class shirts). Limerick Sports Store used to carry our shirt back in the day, dunno why that lapsed.

Don't Gleesons stock Limerick jerseys? They're pretty much the number one sports store in town now anyway so if they don't someone should get on to them to see if it would be a runner.

One idea they should do is to go to every Primary School in the city and country and hand out membership cards for a Junior Supporter's Club for any kid that is interested. Not sure if this idea was maintained last season but the ex's little brother got one out in his school and he pestered his dad into taking him to a game and seemed really excited about being a member of a football team's supporters club. The next generation of supporters are who the club should be targeting, not people who support their British team by drinking in Mojos

Gleesons did have them the 2 years ago but not last year. they should get both gleesons and limerick sports store to sell them, even if they just stock a couple of home and away jerseys.

Also your spot on about the schools, thats where they should be targetting. I was thinking maybe if every kid was given a little voucher that says they get free entry and the adult gets in at a reduced rate of maybe €10 surely it would get a few extra bodies in the gate. Even if limerick are losing the €2 per head for those adults at least it might be getting more people interested and more kids wanting to go support their local team.

Another idea would be if limerick are taking out the ads again in the Limerick Independent they could double the ad up as a voucher. €10 in with this voucher or Pay for one adult bring one free (might make it easier for people to convince a friend to come and would get them interested). Run these promotions for the first few matches of the season or even for matches here and there throughout the season. Its all about promoting the club and getting the crowds in in the beginning, once the crowds start coming then Limerick will start making money on the gate.
