He's been training with us the past few weeks apparently anyway and the local paper had him as signed. I read a quote from Pat Fenlon there last week saying that the clubs had been talking and it was "very likely that the move would happen". Bohs then signed a few players so I think it's gone through or going through anyway.

7 and counting????????? Whats that about? If its about Athlone boys who's the 7? Jinks, Russo, McCarthy, McCartney and Tone IF he signs. Murphy was with Longford before he joined Athlone!!!;)

Can see Duffy and Farrell signing for Drogheda now. Not many other players out there for Mathews to sign. Was surprised to hear the 2 lads were training with us but weren't actually signed yet so it leaves the door open for Mathews to swoop in.

Longfordian

Duffy maybe as Mathews would know all about what he can do, wouldn't be as sure about Farrell he was never interested in him before but it's hard to know I guess.

I just mentioned Farrell cos at the minute their the only other 2 players linked with us at the minute. Plus there's not that many available strikers out there at the minute. Suppose Robbie Martin is out there!!!

Longfordian
04/02/2009, 8:35 PM
Yeah he quite often goes for lads he's worked with before, as do a lot of managers so Robbie Martin wouldn't be a huge surprise. Though he did say in his press conference that the initial players he brings in may not be those who he'll keep around long term so there may be an element of signing up whoever's available. Not much we can do about it anyway, if they're going to go, they'll go.

It's in this week's Leader that Michael Lee has re-signed so that's another defender added to the list.

ye because with the amount of crackin young players we produce year in year out we should be really positive!!!

Is Gary Murphy and Alan Lynch still with ye??

Longfordian
05/02/2009, 9:11 PM
Not for now, no. Lynch doing pre-season with Bray, Gary Murphy holding out for an offer which he feels befits his hard earned status as our star player.

Town Legend

Well seeing as we have 6 midfielders and possibly 2 more according to rumours I wouldn't really be expecting us to re-sign Murphy. And I think Lynch is 99% joining Bray. Well he seems to be pretty confident of getting a contract with them.

Longfordian
05/02/2009, 9:45 PM
No, I wouldn't be expecting it either but from what I hear Gary seems to feel he deserves an almost 100% increase in pay from last year for some reason. Lynch would be alright as a young player for Bray. He wouldn't be up to it week in week out in the Premier Division but he has undoubted ability which can be developed if he has his head screwed on.

well of the current squad we have there is 3 or 4 players on the 1st team squad already who will more than likely be playin durin the season...of last year there was 4 first team starters...

Has anyone seen the team training? What's that ex-GAA goalkeeper like? I read an article about him not so long ago - by the sounds of things he's shi7 hot.

im not being negative just being realistic, do you not think id love to see 11 players line out for longford who are actually from longford! but i know michael lee and he is not that good and he is FAR too small to ever make it as a footballer
