I got a phone call friday evening from a lifelong friend of mine, and a lad who i have played football with for as long as I can remember. the lad on the other end of the phone was seamie coleman, to tell me he had just completed a medical and signed for everton, and he is to start training on tuesday morning with the toffees. I have posted this thread to say how thrilled I am he has finally received the big break that he deserves. To all sligo rovers fans, I am sure you appreciate his spell at the showgrounds and wish him all the best just as I do.

Its a double whammy for the bit o'red to lose seamie and cook on the same day and even though my loyalties lie in finn park I hope you do well in europe. Young jason noctor there is also a good friend of mine and a childhood friend of seame's, and is actually a quite similar player. with a good season or two behind him I wouldnt be surprised if a call came for him to cross the pond too.

Anyway, its easy for me to praise coleman becuase he is a close friend, but as a journalist and spectator of football I believe he will be a huge asset to both everton and ireland in the coming years.

Fair play to him. Seamie's career will be followed by appreciative Rovers fans, and good luck to him.

Its great to see things like this as it gives young lads coming up through the juvenile set ups in clubs and thinking about going into the LOI the inspiration to follow through.

I'm trying to dig out that mazy dribble he went on last season before hitting the bar (i think), anyone remember who that was against & I might be able to track down in MNS archives

I think it was against our lot (Galway United)

Good luck to the lad, he's a great prospect for a few caps now, especially since Stevie Finnan seems to have gone to the dogs....

Surprising that there is still no mention of this on the official Everton site nor on Toffee News.

Fair play tho' for getting it onto the RTE news.

Actually smartass I saw Coleman play 4 times last year. Don't be jealous that I didn't say a Cork City as the best i've seen in the league!
