Folan Backs Out/ (http://www.breakingnews.ie/sport/mhsngbsnsnkf/)

Absolute nonsense. The guy has been available for Hull all month but doesn't think "the time is right" to play for Ireland.!! Let him stay over there for good. If he was called up for Engalnd you could be sure his attitude would be different.

"Hull striker Caleb Folan has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for next month’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia.

The 26-year-old has only recently returned to action following knee surgery and has informed manager Geovanni Trapattoni he does not feel ready to play at Croke Park on February 11."

Well it appears quite clear from the report that he wants to play but is unable to because he is not fit enough to do so.I would not read too much into it.Time to call up Clint i think.

Agreed. Time to recall Clinton?

Stupid thread!

A player who has just had a knee operation pulls out of the squad because he isn't match fit and would feel he'd offer nothing to the squad in his current state.

Nothing Wrong with honesty in my opinion.

Oh Jesus no............ I'd give the younger lads a chance ahead of Clinton.. Shane Long, Noel Hunt, Jay Tabb anyone really.... Clinton is a moaner and doesn't put in the graft... he's past it...

He cant get into the Hull team when fully fit, and Hull have decided to loan a Man Utd striker, Manucho, rather than give Folan a chance. Says a lot really. But i wouldn't read too much into what he said there

One thing that Clinton is definitely is a grafter. Not sure about his recent form though.

SO WHAT??? the guy is just back from a knee op and aint fully fit...he is being honest and fair.

Fair play to the lad...if he feels he aint fit enough to play then well done to the guy cos it means some1 else who is fitter will be in the squad and a fitter striker is more likely to do a job for us than an unfit one.

Anyway, prior to his injury it wasnt like he was a regular in the hull team so he is not gonna purposely turn down INTL football for no reason. INTL puts him in the shop window or shows phil brown what he can do when given a chance.

this thread is absolute nonsense

Worst thread ever?

The guy was willing to play in a B international against Forest, and a "meaningless friendly" against Poland. Why the hell would he opt out of a World Cup Qualifier if he was fit?

He'd have gotten more grief for showing up for squad training clearly not recovered from the surgery.

So he feels fit enough to show up to play for his club but not for his country. How can that be reconciled?

I'd expect the opposite.

Your missing the whole point though!

He hasn't played for his club since the operation.

He did come off the bench today in the 81st minute. Maybe he's not fit enough to play a full 90 minutes, but still, he did play!

Im just asking, I mean if he is'nt fit enough to go train to sit on the bench, or doesnt want to risk it, what is your arguement? I dont get what the problem is? He is'nt taking his name out. Does he even play vs Georgia? He wants to make sure he is good so he can continue his marginal career path. Whats the problem with that? Dont worry, he will be on the bench vs Italy.
I am asking, what is the big deal?

Thirded. Complete donkey, reminds me of that security guard with the hook hand in Scrubs and I'd say he could play better ball.

I'm not saying he's a superstar, but did you watch the Poland game?

I thought he was one of our better performers, and he really looked an intelligent player.
