Con is a living legend and I hadn't heard that story before but if true I think it is insulting to sit down for a national anthem and I know I'd be deeply upset and angry if a NI journalist sat down for Amhran na Bhfiann.

And we live in an ideal / goody-two-shoes world do we?
Con was dead right, i'd have done the same. NI don't even have respect for each other, so to hell with 'em. I'd say they were deeply bothered alright about Con Houlihan not standing up! Especially when they throw dogs abuse at their own like Neil Lennon etc.

I agree with you to a certain extent but these were exceptional circumstances and I'm sure Con only acted in such a manner in a direct protest to the disgusting sectarianism and racism coming from the Norths supporters on that night.

I would have thought you would have been in your natural element in the village and I hope you pass on your apologies to her majesty for Con's insulting behaviour the next time you have tea with her

Given you've already chosen her and moved to Manchester maybe you can do that yourself. :)

Con was making a political statement.
There was certainly sectarianism coming form a minority of the NI support that night. I don't recall any racist chants but some were reported and the nearderthals that were spouting the sectarian stuff were certainly capable of it. However it is grossly unfair to tar NI football fans with that brush. I've also attended the B International in Portadown and the youths UEFA qualifier at the Oval without any problem and cheered on 2 great wins publicly.
I've also see Limerick lose ( :( ) at 5 different NI venues without any issue at all.
