cancelling kids football matches

i have 2 lads both playing under age soccer/under 8 & 12.it seems that all it takes is a bit of rain anytime near the weekend and your match is abandonned.i can honestly say that i have been going to these kind of matches for the last 6 years and when the match is over you would not even notice that they had been on the pitch.what damage could you possibly do at under 8 to any pitch.as it turned out both saturday and sunday were
glorious days and i feel we are losing out on excellent football days for kids just to try and stop damage to pitches.we all know an adult game would cut up the pitch but the average 8 year old weighs about 4 stone.anyone any thoughts on this???:D :D :confused:

A pitch might have up to 5 games on a Sunday morning and what happens when the conditions are wet is that the grass cover is removed and ruins it for all future games.Dublin Corporation and Council seem to be quite strict in this regard because it means they don't have to re-seed the pitch after every year.

Has it anything to do with not wanting the kids to get wet or hurt themselves on a wet pitch?

realistically i bet most kids that had matches cancelled last weekend (including mine) spent time somewhere in some park or green area kicking a ball around.i still dont think any damage worth talking about could be caused by kids this age playing on them.dont forget lads that up to and including under 10 and some under 11 matches are 7 a side!!! which means you have a total of 12 little outfield kids floating around the pitch at most.

most kids games are played using half a full size pitch as 7 a side .
The damage is done not by kids but the huge amounts of adults standing on the line(half-way line).

speaking as a referee i'm not going to take a team of under 8s or 9s out in lashing rain.

they are not going to benefit from it and they can't play ball when they are soaking wet.
