Roddy linked with Kildare post

Former Bohemians and Carlisle United boss Roddy Collins has been linked with the manager’s position at ambitious First Division club Kildare County.

Collins, sacked as manager of English Third Division outfit Carlisle earlier this season, was in attendance at Oriel Park on Thursday night as the Thoroughbreds went down to a 2-1 defeat to Dundalk.

The result leaves their play-off hopes in peril, as Limerick FC – who Kildare must meet on the final day of the season – can move ahead of County with a win against Finn Harps tonight.

Kildare are the youngest club in the eircom League, having taken their place on the senior stage for the first time in the summer of 2002.

With a high-profile manager in Dermot Keely at the helm, they came agonizingly close to the play-offs last season, but their late surge in form just failed to carry them into the top four in their first season in existence.

This time around, they challenged from the outset, and were firmly established in the top four when Keely was lured to Derry City in July. Since then, their promotion tilt has suffered, and they have lost four of their last eight games – including their two most recent outings – to fall within reach of on-form Limerick.

Eric Hannigan, who took over the reins following Keely’s mid-season departure, has previously indicated that he is unable to put the necessary time into the club, and Collins would match the high profile the club sought with the original appointment of title-winning boss Keely 18 months ago.

Would be a hugh improvement on Hannigan, but can we afford him? think he's going to be the next Shamrock Rovers/Derry City manager:confused:
