View Full Version : Michael Nwankwo
He was impressive the other night. Hunted the ball down well and had good distribution in the admittedly brief time he was on.
One of the very few bright spots last night IMO.
yeah he looks like a handy player, whether he is or not I dunno yet. He throws the right shapes anyway :)

Don't think he's great. Very light, won't do a job.
Is he the fella from the Egyptian second division or is that the other fella ?

Seen a lot of Egyptian games have you? Or are you just generalising in the same manner we tend to accuse the Premiership crowd of doing???

Would you honestly think the Egyptian second division is any good. The EL 1st Div would EVEN be better than that.

I wouldnt be so sure. Their champions Zamalek or whoever didn't disgrace themselves in the World Club Champions crappy tournament whereas our clubs European exploits this season alone served as a reminder that we fully deserve our lowly UEFA ranking. And I have seen the two players in question and think they're well up to be members of the Cork City squad (especially the lad with the dreads)
lests go on a....eh...fact finding mission to find out.

A **** up in Egypt? Might be a good idea\ might not.
How about we pitch the idea under the Cork City of Culture thing. We can say we're organizing a friendly between City and Zamelek.;) Thats bound to be worth a few quid.
I'd agree though that we can't afford to be too sniffy about African clubs, not until Eircom League clubs are capable of beating crud like teams from Cyprus anyway. Al Ahly and Zamelek are fairly decent anyway.

Might not I reckon. Egypt being an Islamic country, alcohol is more likely than not banned there.
Well done on your knowledge of North African soccer, though it is a while since either of them did any good in the African CL. Fair point about who we turn our noses up at. Only for Bohs earlier this season, us eL fans couldn't look down on anyone.

Its not an Islamic country, its an Arab country. There are a number of religions there, Islam being the biggest, but its not governeed by Islamic law in the same way as, say Saudi or Iran. Not sure about the alcohol laws there, but I think alcohol is legal. Certainly in "Western" hotels it would be.

Éanna has pretty much summed it up here.
Most western hotels have bars and you can also get beer/wine with your meal. In the cities though most of the beer is non-alcoholic.
I had a ticket to see Egypt v Morocco in the World Cup qualifiers but got to the ground 55 minutes before KO only to be turned away because the 140,000 capacity ground was full.
They drew 0-0 and a guy comitted suicide. Went back to the business bar in the hotel where beer and food was free until 19:00.
Air polution is nearly as bad as New Delhi so I wouldn't advise people with respiratory conditions to visit. They also have some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.
Perhaps the Clare County Council would pay for our junket?
