I have been too long now a voyeur of forum land.
I am no debater or football genius like my esteemed colleagues on these forums.
So I have decided to put what I want ot say into verse. My very first attempt at verse is a dedication to our P.A. announcer and his big inadvertent mistake at insulting the county faithful on a cold Autumn's night. Here it is
The Sounds Of Silence
From the Movie "The Graduate"
Performed by Simon Garfunkel edited by "The Bard"
Humm the tune in your head while reading it sounds nice!
Hello dierctors my old friends
You’ve put your foot in it again
Because time is slowly creeping
You run this club like you are sleeping
And the supporters need to know what is going on
But all we hear is the sound of silence
We lost Dermot Keely our Talisman
And in his place we got Eric Hannigan
We lost Dykesy & Russell to Derry
Then we lost Edler and Pat McNally
So many departures and we wanted to know why!
The answer was quieter than the sound of silence
Then on the pitch I scarily saw
Tactics that made me drop my jaw
3-5-2 that didn’t work in any game
But the injuries got all the blame
Why oh why didn’t we boost the size of our squad?
How dare we disturb the sound of silence
And the supporters bowed and prayed
To reverse the decision that was made
The players body language said it all
The supporters confidence was next to fall
What has happened to the best team in the League
While the other teams laughed in silence
An Eircom League club with no structures
Fiasco after fiasco had us up in ructures
From winning the the league and the whole lot
We will probably lose our play-off spot
Why didn’t they sack our manager Hannigan?
And they whisper'd in the sound of silence
Fools they said, get it straight
You only pay 10 euro at the gate
This regime saved the club, they said
Just blindly follow Kildare County LIMITED
Where were ye for the last year and a half we said?
Again their answers echoed the sound of silence
So hello dierctors my old friends
Will you keep covering for him again and again
Will we have any players next season
Th supporters with you have tried to reason
Next year when the players run out on the pitch
You just might hear the sound of silence
