might make a trip to that game but only to see how stevie gavin and lavine are performing.. that table quiz in athlone is on the same night isnt it??
Doubt it, they live in Offaly. Though you couldn't imagine there being that many Russo's in the Irish Midlands!
As for Anthony Keenan, a fiver from every ticket sold in the upcoming Athlone Town Legends game is being donated to his fund as well. Ash or someone will confirm this, story has disappeared off the iStat website.
Change of plan on that one, after speaking to the Jelly Keenan Trust we have decided to keep both fundraisers seperate, however we will be supporting the table quiz.
Should have ticket details for the Legends game available soon.

heard today from one of the lads that was at the match (sorbo the greek) that adrian murphy and paul kelly were playing for the trialists against under20s today. apparently murphy outshone derek glynn..
also heard rumours today that gary murphy could be on his way to galway utd...

Those two lads are well capable of playing First Division football if they're interested enough. Wouldn't read too much into a first training game against the Under 20s though, be it positive or negative.

And talking about former players I came across Fergal Coleman on the net who's playing or played for some Australian team in the Victorian League. And Evan Creedon is involved with some team out in Vancouver!

You should bring out a book!
A History of Longford Town. That would be interesting.:ball:

If you sell it in individual chapters I reckon the relegation year will sell out in Athlone book shops!
Anyway, back to transfers ... whats the story with the core of your team
being the players who finished below ye last year!!!
Wonder will there be any players left by the time we get our ship steady :o

Right sided midfield player. Aged about 26. From Kenagh, Co. Longford. Was with us as a fringe player for most of the Mathews era. Took some time out in '06 and then returned for last season. Started season well but hasn't scored since April :o

So with the majority of our squad from last year not re-signing any thoughts on where they'll end up. The likes of Gallagher, Hardy, Doyle, McKenna and Frawley? Will Rushe, Harte and Casey end up back with Athlone? Any thoughts?

Frawley and Gary, good luck to them waste of space.
Sorry to see Hardy go
Good riddance to Casey
Harte hard to know would have been ok to hang onto.
Good luck to McKenna I have seen more enthusiastic turkeys at xmas...
Gallagher is a great keeper and will be missed.

Heard about the rumours regarding frawley and murphy. Not sure if McKenna will end up at Harps if there's money problems there?? Are they all confirmed signings?
Damien Rushe gone to Mervue
Wouldnt be so sure about that ...
Casey to Athlone
We do not have a manager in place yet and havent signed anyone ...
and even if we did I sincerely hope they would not let Ryan Casey darken the door!

Harte won't be missed in my opinion. Sure we sacked him anyway. Luke Hardy will be a loss if he is indeed gone, he's a good player. Frawley can be replaced but we'll have to see who comes in to replace him. Gallagher would be useful to have around but Murphy is a very good keeper, if we got another young goalie as cover that'd be alright. Gough may be able to be emergency cover himself too. Ryan Casey was the biggest waste of wages we had since Brian Byrne. Constantly injured and useless when fit.

I can't see us bringing anybody in from a club abroad, on loan or otherwise. They would be too expensive. Even if you didn't have to pay big wages you'd probably have to find them accomodation etc to make it worth their while coming over.

I think frawley and hardy are losses..frawley was a solid performer and proved himself a better captain than others
Tbh i can see murphy do well in the premier if he ups the workrate..he is a great passer of the ball and has technical ability that isnt always easy to see in the hatchet type first division drivel..in the games against footballing teams such as shels and fingal he did ok..

i was down at the training session today in ballymahon at ballymahon fcs all weather pitch.. I spoke to alan gough down there and he confirmed to me that bray wandererers and ex finn harps player ray kenny was signing for the club.. brian mccarthy has also signed as well.. didnt recognise too many players two players were on trial.. one player had a lucan utd top on him..the only player from last year was andy bermingham.. im very impressed with goughs attention to detail philip coffey was coaching down there as well.. havent a clue who the goalkeeping coach is.. but gough took part in the full training session and is still as sharp as ever.. michael lee also played.. i also think robbie hamm took part in todays session.. the lads will be trainin in ballymahon for the next few weeks as flansiro pitch is bein dug up thanks to a very good town fan.. there is no changin rooms in ballymahon but they change up in forgneys gaa pitch...
