I'm waiting for 2017, the year in which a Rovers team of Clare-born dwarves bankrolled by priests, who made themselves fat off the profits of the Corrib gas field, wins the 42-game Champions Leauge play-offs. 'Big' John Carruthers slots home the winning penalty, after being clattered by the opposition goalie's knee in an aerial challenge.

Well he played at Centre Midfield last season, and has often filled in at the back. Presuming Alan Cawley signs, I'd say Danny will be played at left-back until Butler is fully fit.

If Cawley signs we'll have a very good central midfield. Assuming Ventre will be asked to fill in at LB, we've got O'Grady and Ryan/Cawley. Maybe even a bit of rotation, no?

From The Weekender:
Rovers’ budget OK kickstarts transfers
By: Robert Cullen
SLIGO Rovers have been given the green light by the FAI to sign players for the forthcoming season after the governing body approved the club’s budget for the 2009 season.
Rovers had been in talks with a number of players and it is understood they had agree-ments in place with at least two of those players, Stephen Parkhouse and Owen Morrispon, and possibly a third, Sligo native Alan Cawley, but were unable to sign them to a contract until the budget received approval,
Sligo Rovers chairman Michael Toolan confirmed that the FAI had approved the club’s budget and said Sligo Rovers would announce in the coming days the signing of three players, which he would only describe as “a striker, a midfielder and a defender”.
He added that, because of the strict budget, Sligo Rovers are unlikely to be announcing any new major signing before the season starts in late February.
“Things will be quietening down after this [the signing of three players],” said Toolan.
“Everyone in the League of Ireland is in the same positing of having to tighten our belts because the way the economy is going.”
“We must stay within the budget approved by the FAI so there won’t be much more activity.”
Meanwhile, an announcement on the future of full-back Seamus Coleman is also expected later this week. “The position with Seamus Coleman is that there are still two clubs talking to Sligo Rovers about buying him,” said Toolan. “The talking is positive in one direction and we should have an announcement in the next few days on this.”
Who do ye think will be the 3 players to be announced ?
IMO:
Striker: Stephen Parkhouse
Midfielder: Owen Morrison
Defender: Seamus Sharkey ?

Surely the LOI won't have sorted out even provisional fixtures yet will they? That would imply that they were actually organised wouldn't it?
Plus, from a personal point of view that'd be a terrible time to visit Tallaght as a flight to Dublin and a place to stay on Paddy's weekend would bankrupt me and I've the Europa Cup adventure to save for!!!

Strangely enough i've always noticed him as a good player with harps though I thought Derry City were in for him a while back. He'd be very good cover imo while chris butler is out. From what i've seen of him he's all left foot but he definately can play.Would of thought sharkey was the one being announced

From what I was told Shams requested the FAI that we be the 1st team to be play them in Tallaght as we were the last team to play them in Milltown. He seemed definite about it! I suppose if true we'll have a home game 1st this season.

To be fair there's a certain amount of symmetry to that... still be a shame from a personal point of view!

Heard Dundalk are looking for a couple of away games at the start of the season till they get their pitch fully sorted, and Rovers are likely to be their first game of seson. Could be BS mind

Shaping up well again now that Cook is back what do reckon the team will be now with coleman gone and butler and ryan out reckon Boco could play right back as he plays there for Benin heard Noctor is quality also not sure where he plays , Boco could also play in central midfield with O'grady with Parkhouse and raf upfront and doherty and morrison on the wings , hopefully we can get a decent run of fixtures and get off to a good start.

Noctor is a Right Back! Good player..Very similiar to what Coleman was like when Seamie first came on the scene!
Has Noctor signed as well? Know nothing about him. If anybody can get the best out of Parkhouse it's Carr and Cook.
Also, when is the fixture list out?

Tallaght won't be ready for the 1st game of the season according to this post - http://foot.ie/showpost.php?p=1104220&postcount=39
Hopefully we'll be the first team to play them when it's ready. It would be great to beat them in their new home.
